Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 11, 2013 5:51 pm Hi all, I'm Tim, a new member here. We have recently built a house (in fact, it hasn't been handed over yet), but we have realised we have made some mistakes with the kitchen colors. The hero of the kitchen is the 40mm edge stone bench which is a slightly off-white color. The wall paint is even more off-white and is a 'bone' color. We chose white cupboards, however I'm a bit concerned we chose the wrong colour. The white makes the wall paint look a bit 'dirty'. Any brides that have mixed an off-white wedding dress with a stark white veil will know what I mean. Here is a pic of how the kitchen currently looks: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm just looking for advice on what we can do? The options I'm considering are: A - Replace the cupboards with a different colour B - Repaint the kitchen wall paint to a white colour. Will this make the kitchen look out of place with the rest of the living area? C - Repaint the entire living space to a white colour D- Put up decorations (photo/picture frames) to blend the colors a bit more Does anyone recommend any of those options or any others? Re: Our kitchen color scheme mistake 2Aug 11, 2013 5:59 pm The wall colour is far too warm for the cabinets and bench tops. I love that white look for kitchens, I'd be repainting in a cool white. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Our kitchen color scheme mistake 3Aug 11, 2013 6:09 pm robbie55 The wall colour is far too warm for the cabinets and bench tops. The kitchen is in the corner of an open living area. If we paint the kitchen area a cool white, do you think it will look weird with the rest of the room? Re: Our kitchen color scheme mistake 4Aug 11, 2013 7:28 pm It's very difficult to tell what's going on from just this one picture - your counter tops look lavender, and your walls look brown?! Any more pictures? The paint colour is far too warm with the other cool colours Re: Our kitchen color scheme mistake 6Aug 11, 2013 8:11 pm Paint is cheaper than cabinetry! Change the Paint and use pictures and curtains to warm up the living area Re: Our kitchen color scheme mistake 8Aug 11, 2013 8:36 pm Yeah I think e colour is wrong. Needs be lighter and a lot less yellow tone with your floorboards. Perhaps a warm/natural white instead Re: Our kitchen color scheme mistake 9Aug 11, 2013 8:49 pm Interesting how the white cabinets are picking up the magenta tones in the wood. Probably due to the lovely sunlight reflecting in through the window. I think you should repaint your walls a warmish white like antique white USA. Good luck! And I don't think it would look strange, even though its open plan, from the second pic you posted, it still looks kind of separate. I'd get a bunch of sample pots and test them out to see which works best with both the cabinets and the bone colour of the rest of the room. Change the Paint and use pictures and curtains to warm up the living area Depends on what sort of doors are on the cabinets. If they are a 2pac door then its very easy to respray them any colour the OP wants. We are looking at repainting the entrance, living and kitchen area a whiter colour. We are planning to use some warm white downlights and some pendent lights to warm the place up a bit. Re: Our kitchen color scheme mistake 14Aug 28, 2013 8:41 pm timhet...in all honesty, I don't think you have a problem at all. But if you want to brighten the lace up, white walls would be a days job! I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9807 Unless there were unforeseeable issues with the site, I dont think you should have to pay for contractors errors or poor planning. I'd probably try and be reasonable and… 5 4724 |
