I am deciding between Scanpan Impact 5 piece set or Circulon Steel Elite 6 piece set.
Has anyone used these particular brands and what is your verdict?

Lifetime warranty is worthless as they will tell you that you are using it wrong eg: too high heat. He said he would never buy Scanpan again after spending a lot of money on them. Sorry can't comment on Circulon. I have used it as my primary cookware for the last year and it is the best I have had (not that I have had any other "brand name" pots to compare them to - only a cheap set for the previous 9 years). It took a little getting used to the stainless steel frypan after having both Teflon non-stick and hard anodised (Tefal, Raco, etc) that ALL lost their claimed "non-stick" coatings despite using plastic and/or wooden utensils. That being said, I will now NEVER buy another "non-stick" frypan. No more eating peeling black stuff off the pans. I have also never used any of them in the oven - only on the gas stovetop so I don't know how they would perform in the oven. I use a chux cloth and Gumption to clean them if they have anything stuck on after going through the dishwasher, and they look the same as they did a year ago straight out of the box. Never had anything Circulon before so cannot comment, but I believe they are in a league of their own, but also a price tag to match. Second Time 'Round Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 5Jul 31, 2013 9:33 pm Another +1 for scanpan from me. Good quality and value as you can always get them for a good price. Pay far more and there is better, but I reckon they punch well above their weight for the price. 4 Beta Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 6Aug 01, 2013 8:37 am I use scanpan as well, although it is a collection of individual pieces, not a set. I've been very happy with it. Note that I have stainless steel only - non-stick just doesn't work for me. HD Land settled May '14. Blog: http://jyndeira.net/blog/ Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 7Aug 01, 2013 7:15 pm I'm looking at buying a new frying pan and I'm cheesed off with Teflon and similar coatings. I haven't got as far as researching Scanpans yet but I saw lots of reviews online last evening regarding Circulon. They were almost entirely bad reviews. So I'm crossing that off my list of possibles. Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 8Aug 01, 2013 9:14 pm Ive used all the popular ones. They all died within about 2 years from using it about a dozen times a week. Guess it depends on how you use them but i used them a lot with only wooden/plastic utensils. Maybe it was the high heat(gas cooktops) that got it.. Best non stick i've experienced is a Woll Nowo Titanium. I've also got Scanpan stainless, enamel coated cast iron, plain cast iron and carbon steel wok that have outlasted all my non stick pans as they all still look fairly new but admittedly they were not used anywhere near as much. Hubby gave me a surprise gift on a Baccarat 32 cm frying pan today. It's called Bio+ and has a cast aluminium body with a ceramic interior. He got it for $55 which was 50% off the usual price. The lady in the shop said not to use spray oil with it. I'll post back in a couple of weeks to report on it just in case anyone else is considering a Baccarat. Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 10Aug 12, 2013 11:29 pm I've been using my Baccarat frying pan for 10 days. So far I love it. It does take a while to heat up but conversely it takes a while to lose its heat so you can turn off the heat sooner than you usually would. The inside base of the pan looks flat but when I put food in there it seems to slide over to the edge so there must be a slight curve in the base. This hasn't presented a problem so far as the food is cooking very evenly no matter where it sits in the frying pan. So, so far it is a thumbs up. Sorry can't comment on Circulon. Jo I have a set of Scanpans and I have had 2 replaced under warranty, and it was only because I returned them to the head office in person and demanded they be replaced. They accused me of cooking milk in one of the saucepans (I've never cooked milk.... and if I had, I didn't see a notice saying don't cook milk in this saucepan) and the other one they accused me of using at high heat. I am slowly replacing my Scanpans, they look revolting, they are a pain to clean and they don't cook very well. They are about 7 years old now, and I thought with the money I had invested in them, that they would last me a lifetime. I bought a 4 piece pack, the saucepans & frypan are ruined. I also have a roasting dish, smaller frypan, steamer & griddle plate. I will say that the big 8L "Dutch Oven" is fabulous though, great for doing big cook ups of soup. I bought a Circulon chef's pan about 8 weeks ago, I love it, I think I will eventually swap my Scanpans over to these. SO easy to clean, nothing sticks, I don't need to scrub it for ages like I did with the Scanpans. The one thing that I noticed with the Circulon is the handle seems to be quite long. Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 12Sep 27, 2013 8:07 pm I'm off on my Baccarat frying pan tack again but thought it may be of interest to those buying pans. My pan now has a sticky patch in the middle and has a coating on it that you would have expected if I had used spray oil (which I haven't). I have spoken to Baccarat today and they are going to send out a new pan. I queried the fact that the pan is slightly raised in the middle meaning any oil placed in it runs to the edges. I was told this is normal and is the latest European style/standard! Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 13Sep 27, 2013 10:38 pm I know it's going to sound corney but what about theses stone coated items they are hamering all over the TV? Old but relevant article - http://www.sfgate.com/food/article/The-Sticking-Point-Nonstick-pans-are-a-boon-to-2662310.php The gist of the article is to buy certain pans for certain uses. I buy cheap non stick pans from Aldi for less than $20 and they last a couple of years then buy it again when it's finished. Looking at the reviews, Analon isn't rated as a great brand, but I must say I prefer them to the scanpans now. Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 16Oct 01, 2013 10:42 pm I have a Circulon set and love it! Even cooking and easy to clean too!
Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 17Oct 02, 2013 10:03 pm I bought a scanpan years ago and loved it. THEN I bought a Jamie Oliver one which I love even more. I still love the scanpan but I would buy another Jamie Oliver one if I needed a third. When researching a sales lady said most people love the scanpan but they get a few complaints but everyone loves the Jamie Oliver. Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 18Oct 03, 2013 11:10 am I've got Scanpan, Anolon and Swiss Diamond and have to say the Swiss Diamond is my most favourite followed by Anolon and then Scanpan. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64434 Building our own custom design based on the Elwood by Dale Alcock Land settled - November Plans submitted to council - January Prestart - March Slab - 18 September Brickies - 23 October Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 19Oct 04, 2013 1:16 pm We have Scanpan but I could not say I'm really impressed if I was honest about it. We have had one of the frypans replaced under warranty already. Hence I wondered if anyone had gone stone coated? Re: Scanpan or Circulon? 20Oct 08, 2013 10:07 am i currently have circulon, baccarat and tefal frying pans. all are good but the tefal kmart special is my favourite. from day one the coating on the baccarat has never been as good as the others. sadly the non stick coating on any brand will only last a couple of years at best and these items should be seen as disposable. |
