Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 21, 2013 8:19 pm Hi all, I have a double bowl sink and a dishwasher which has been plumbed the standard, cheap way with one trap. There's an extension over to the second bowl and the dishwasher waste plugs into the waste on the main bowl. So when the sink or dishwasher empties I get a gurgling noise coming up through the waste(s), which is annoying. So I'm planning on redoing the piping to give me one trap for each sink. My question is, can I put the dishwasher waste in "below" the trap for the sink? My question is, can I put the dishwasher waste in "below" the trap for the sink? Most double bowl sinks are plumbed up with only one trap. Its very rare for two traps to be used. The reason you are hearing a gurgling sound is because the dishwasher is plumbed in above the trap which is standard plumbing. There is no need for a second trap it will just take up extra space in your sink cabinet. I cant see any reason why you couldn't plumb the dishwasher in below the trap. All dishwashers have filters in them so the waste water should be free of particles that would need a trap.
