Water Pipe / Outlet for Fridge

Hey

We heard that those big fridges need the water outlet / pipe for the water dispenser / ice etc..

Since getting house built atm and it is not a standard feature, we are being quoted $310 for the additional water pipe / outlet which can be used in the fridge in future..

Is it worth it and decent cost? Or something can be done in future? But then might need more breaking etc in kitchen to get it fit??

Is the wall that the fridge is going on an external or internal wall? If its external then it isn't too bad having it run in afterwards. If its internal then get it done with the build. We are renovating an old house and we have had to chase the wall to have it, pain in the butt!

I think ours is about $300 too and it's an internal wall. Definitely worth doing it with the build - Seems a reasonable cost.

Ours was $400 but that is because the gyprocking had already been done before we thought about it. So it cost more as they had to remove the gyprock from that wall to install it neatly. I say get it done during the build as well.

if it is internal wall - then it is worth. I paid a bit more than $300.00 i think

Its an internal wall.. the wall behind the fridge is a kinda T juncture of an inside wall and alfresco.. I don't believe there is any pipes running on the back of alfresco wall.. So even if we don't get a fridge with that feature right now.. good idea to get it done atm and fork the cash??

It can also be run inside your cabinets at a latter date.

They attached it to the top back corner of each cabinet and drill a small hole between the cabinets.

Agreed.. But the Q is if it is going to cost more post build (best guess) and more hassle..

If its run inside the cabinets then it could actually be cheaper. It depends on you walls though. It wouldn't cost anymore though.
But if your building I would have it put it now.

I've been quoted $197 for the water connection in our fridge recess. Thought this was quite reasonable and much easier to do now than later on when we may actually have a fridge which needs it!

Ours was $217 as an upgrade to our build. I would do it now - less disruption and I think it would be cheaper.

I would also do it now, but it wont be any cheaper. It is very quick and easy to do after the kitchen is installed.

Thanks guys.. after some thought we are getting it done during build..

Now its a matter of wether we buy a fridge that actually uses it
