Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 11, 2013 12:35 pm Hi everyone! I'm having a bit of trouble with the lady i am dealing with at Dennis Family Homes in relation to the colour selections. We requested Laminate Diamond Gloss bench tops in "Pure Mineralstone" throughout the house. I explained to her that i wanted "the square edge in that range" and she said yes no worries. When i received a draft copy of the colour selections i realised that she in fact listed the product with 10 x 10 rolled edge... No worries, easily fixed... Well... i emailed her attaching a picture of the acrylic edge laminate confirming that this is what we want, just to make sure (as i wasn't 100% sure what the correct term for that edging was) and she replies that the picture i have shown her was a stone bench top and that we can't have that look as our bench is laminate.. (it wasn't a stone bench top as it was a picture from this forum which clearly stated it was an acrylic edge diamond gloss product!) HELP!! How do i tell her without sounding like a know-it-all Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66238&p=1053710#p1053710 Re: Diamond Gloss Laminate Acrylic Edging 2Jul 11, 2013 4:20 pm Quite a few kitchen companies don't realise the square edge product is available. 99.5% of all the kitchens I do have stone tops so I missed it until a customer asked for it. Maybe email them the laminex link to be sure. I just remember when we got it for ours the lady said something along the lines of that edging not being an option for all colours. At the time I'm pretty sure it was only available for the sfx180 colours. Could be wrong though. They did indicate over the phone it could potentially be quite expensive due to the sheets of laminate required to complete this finish and wastage etc. We will get back to you about this pricing, however as a back up so you are aware,we can do the square edge (which is what was in the picture I sent) at no additional charge, however you do see the edging joins, especially on lighter colour laminates." What a load of C*&p!! With the new square edging you actually use less laminate!!! With the old style laminate tops with the rounded edges the laminate is one continuous piece across the top, down and around the edge and then a 30-40mm return underneath. If you are working on a 600mm deep bench top then a 710mm wide piece of laminate is required for the old style and only a 620 piece is required for the square edge!!! Price wise it might be slightly more expensive but not by much. You don't need anymore laminate and the rolls of acrylic edging come in 25m so there shouldn't be to much waste in a whole kitchen. It cost me $180 the last time I bought a roll so it's not excessive. This is the product you need (4 lines down) http://estore.thelaminexgroup.com.au:80 ... ng+Acrylic As long as they have a edge bander that can handle the 43mm edging they can just run it in house. You can actually buff the edging by hand with car polish to get the clear, glassy look. Just make sure they don't give you square edge (laminate edges) you want the acrylic 3d edgebanding. This is the website of the company that supplies Laminex with their edging. http://www.surteco.com.au/index.php?id=2214 There seems to be much confusion with regards the terminology of laminate benchtops. Whether it be squareform (post formed), square edged (laminated) or acrylic edging people seem to use the terms interchangeably. You need to make sure your cabinet maker and yourself are both aware of exactly what edge treatment you want so as to avoid any difficult situations. Hi Cara, I just tried to ring - Acrylic Edging will be $270 for the Kitchen. If you also wanted it in the Bathroom and Ensuite it would be an additional $270 provided you have the same laminate in each (Other wise $270 per room.). The additional cost involved is because it requires additional sheets of laminate. Dawn from Liberty has a sample she can show you, and I said you may visit. Kind Regards, Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66238&p=1053710#p1053710 Re: Diamond Gloss Laminate Acrylic Edging 11Jul 12, 2013 4:09 pm It shouldn't cost you anymore than the post formed top they have quoted you on. Most cabinet makers have to send out for post formed tops (it's a specialised machine) where as the acrylic edging can be done in house if they have the appropriate edgebander (and most shops will). If they are trying to charge you lots more then someone (cabinet maker or builder) is gouging you. Kind Regards, Work out how many metres of edging you will need to go around all the benches. A roll is 25m so if it isn't anymore than that then they only need to buy one roll of edging. I don't see why it should cost you $270 per area. Having said that, in the big scheme of building a house a couple of hundred isn't much. We got sfx180 though not diamond gloss. The price was given to us approximately 2.5 months ago from a company called Proform in Malaga, WA. They want ANOTHER $270 for the bathrooms and laundry also...$540 for all of it.. I just don't understand how they can do that.
