Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 26, 2013 3:13 pm just wondering if anyone can tell me some prices for dishwasher installation with me providing me own dishwasher. i'm in SA thanks in advance Re: dishwasher installation 2Jun 26, 2013 5:43 pm More info required! Is there a space for it? If so is the dishwasher already in the space and only the connections need to be done? Is it beside the sink cabinet? Is there a tap and power point under the sink ready to go for the dishwasher? You just need to drill a big hole from dishwasher recess into cabinet to fit hoses and plug through and connect them.. You just need to drill a big hole from dishwasher recess into cabinet to fit hoses and plug through and connect them.. Don't make the mistake like many people do and drill the hole through the side of the sink cabinet!!! The dishwasher has a recess at the bottom for the power and water and its at this level the hole should be drilled. The hole should be drilled in the bottom back corner of the kickboard and then another hole drilled in the bottom of the cabinet! If you don't drill the holes this way the dishwasher pipes will end up pushing the dishwasher out to far and it wont line up with the doors! I bet if a power point is required then it would be extra? If you don't drill the holes this way the dishwasher pipes will end up pushing the dishwasher out to far and it wont line up with the doors! LOL! We made this mistake, drilled two holes in the side of the cupboard and then couldn't fit the dishwasher! That was how our SS told us to do it! Bloody idiot. Anyway definitely do the hole in the bottom of the side of the cupboard and then a hole inside the cupboard coming from the bottom. If you do buy a good one, do remember that some of them MAY require panels etc. Mine for example is a Bosch SMU68M05AUSS and it required a kick board matching the rest of the kitchen to be installed and a 16mm fill panel above the dishwasher. It looks rather schmick but apart from the cost of providing the kick and fill panel it would then take longer and more money to install. Some others may also need a door panel matching the cabinets. Again more time to install. But a simple non fancy unit should be dead easy.
