Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 16, 2013 8:28 pm We have a country farmhouse with new open plan kitchen/dine/lounge extension. We are in the planning stages of the kitchen and after seeing a reno show on TV was attracted to the idea of the kitchen bench top having an attatched table sticking out from it. I would draw a layout but my skills are lacking on posting it here. Anyway, my question is: Does anyone have any experience with these and what are the pros and cons ? I prefer to replace the island and bar stools with a long rectangular table at table height with normal chairs, you can then have your sink, hotplates and prep area along the wall. Something like this:- http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/grumblebum54/Tableisoisland_zps5073fb9b.jpg If there is a separate dining area I would have a round table, something smaller for when there are just the two of us. Regards, Grumbles Re: Kitchen bench/table combo's ? 6Jun 17, 2013 12:17 pm The big kitchen with table in the middle reminds me of those English "in the country" shows. Personally I love the look but would you want that to be your ONLY dining table? Depends if you have dinner parties etc. If you do you would want a formal dining as well. A personaly choice depending on your lifestyle I think. Things are certainly changing. As people seem to entertain more in the kitchen the kitchen has to be a showpiece. You can't cook in it any more. You need to have a butlers pantry to prepare away from the kitchen. Madness. Hey all, Hoping for some inspiration for my bathroom laundry combo.
