Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 23, 2008 4:30 pm Hi Everyone,
We are in the process of putting a house colour selection together with Porter Davis. I'm really stuggling with the kitchen, I thought I knew what I wanted but after seeing this and that and hearing everyone's opinions I'm now confused. At this stage we are having timber floating floors throughout house with carpet in all the bedrooms, lounge, study and rumpus. The colour of the carpet is "Army" it's a dark green and I love it. We are thinking of Wattly Flokati for the walls and white for the trims. Although White Pepper was also suggested for the walls - too dark??? I don't know! Now for the kitchen, I currently have picked - Polar White cupboards and drawers and kicker, Quantum Quartz Bench Top in ICE with the apron/waterfall effect on the Island Bench and Dulux Linseed for the colour of the glass splash back. I don't know whether to have Gloss or Satin finish on the cupboards. Handles are the bar type in chrome finish. - I would appreciate anyone's comments or opinions or advice. Thank you! Toni Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 2Apr 23, 2008 4:37 pm Wow Toni!
We have very similar tastes! ![]() i am also building with PD, I am also having a Polar White Kitchen cuboards with bar handles, I'm having Starlight White for the QQ benchtop though...but in the same family as Ice.. I am also having timber floors - Spotted Gum I have looked at Wattyl Flokati and White Pepper with white trims, but have finally decided on Kid Leather by Wattyl after some great advice from Mich, I feel Flokati might be a bit light for what I am after and the White Pepper just a touch to dark....Kid Leather seems to be in the middle of the two I'm only left to think of the splashback colour, just looked at your Linseed colour - its gorgeous!! I am trying to decide between a brown splashback, or a grey splashback or a darker reddy/brown tone like Dlux Bleached Bark (thanks Paula ![]() Overall I think your colour selections sound great, and not just because they are similar to mine ![]() Good Luck bel ![]() Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 3Apr 23, 2008 4:43 pm Toni

Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 7Apr 23, 2008 7:06 pm Toni….going off V’s photo he posted the Flokati is a nice colour, but I don’t have an issue with the Pepper being a bit darker, but that’s me. So I guess this comes back to how dark you want your walls to be, and if you intend on doing feature walls as well.
Your Kitchen colours are nice, and the Lindseed is a great colour! So I’m guessing you are having a 2 pack for your doors? If it were me, I would go the satin, the gloss tends to show finger marks. But this also depends on how much nature light you will have coming into your kitchen. Hope this has helped a little for you. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 8Apr 23, 2008 7:35 pm Wow! Thanks for all your replies and so quick!
I like both the White Pepper and Flokati, I have a huge sample of my green carpet so would really like to go and put it up against a wall to see it together. I have been waiting for over a week for PD to get back to me letting me know which displays (if any) have the colours so I can go and see. Thanks for posting the photo, wonder though what the carpet colour is, bit hard to see in the photo. We had originally been advised to go for Chalk Beige Walls and Chalk Dust trims which I really like, the Chalk Beige seemed to pick up the carpet colour nicely. Then I was advised by another consultant not to have C/Beige and look at the others. I wonder if Kid Leather is too pinky.......I can see pink in the little sample - so hard to picture it on a wall. I guess I'd like something in between Pepper and Flokati. I would like to see a contrast between walls and trim and would love a dark olive feature wall! I'm not a brown person, I think they look lovely but I can't live with it and that's why I've gone for the green/olivey carpet. I love the Linseed on the Ice, it picks up the darker flecks in the bench top and looks really nice. It's not a colour I would have ever picked out from the bunch of samples but again the 2nd PD consultant I had suggested it. I think because there is going to be so much white with the overhead cupboards - I'll have three doubles - it might hopefully break it up!!! I don't have alot of natural light coming it the kitchen at all!!! I have a small window in the pantry and a 850mm wide x 1800m height window at the end of the kitchen and then a large sliding door opposite kitchen with the meals area in between. I had to delete the large window in the meals area to fit in my 1,9m buffet/hutch piece of furniture which is dark wood (maybe a walnut colour) so the kitchen bench will end then it will be the 850mm window and then the buffet. I like both the Satin and the Gloss, I wondered if I had the gloss if I could have a different colour (bit like the linseed) on the back of the Island in gloss as that would be at no cost rather than a glass splash back there which would probably cost me over a thousand ??? Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 9Apr 23, 2008 7:40 pm I read your reply quickly…..but this was all I needed to get back to you.
If you don’t have a lot of naturel light coming into the kitchen, then I would keep everything as light as you can. So now I’m going to tell you do to a gloss for your doors…..why? So it will bounce the maximum amount of light you are getting into the space! I stil reallly like it ![]() Slight OT - Can anyone suggest a greyish colour for me to look at from Dulux, I am also thinking a splashback in this colour might look good with my white kitchen... Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 16Apr 23, 2008 9:58 pm Sorry haywgl, I was looking at "Your Shadow" in my wattyl brochure which is under kid leather, your shadow looks pinky to me. I think kid leather is in between the two colours I'm looking at. So hard to pick and imagine it all together! Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 17Apr 23, 2008 10:02 pm Hhaha fewf!! I think kid leather is between the 2 also....I liked both the colours you are looking at but thought they were either too dark or too light, so came to the conclusion that Kid Leather was a happy medium ![]() I also like Alabaster...did you see that one?? Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 18Apr 23, 2008 10:11 pm No I haven't seen alabaster in paint only in the laminate. I really like the chalk beige which is in alot of PD's displays, it picks the green up nicely from the carpet but now have doubts due to 2nd consultant's comments. What house/area are you building in? Has your house started?
Vanderlay - can you tell me what colour carpet you have with your walls. Walls look really nice. I've seen Bone on display and that is a nice neutral colour too but more in the browns? Michelle, thanks for your advice, I think you've helped me make up my mind over gloss and satin. I think I always wanted gloss but couldn't make the decision. I thought it might so nicely with the shiny splash back but then didn't know if that was the right way to think!!! The light is a concern in the room, I've increased the size of the family room windows which may help. The gloss is in a vinyl wrap, from what I've tried to find out from google this is different to 2pac. Paula, you must tell me how you clean your splash back - good ol' windex? It looks lovely and clean! Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 19Apr 23, 2008 10:13 pm I am building the Cremorne 41, hopefully in Melbourne's west, if we find some land ![]() What about you? If you go to the home building blogs and click on awallace's, he has used Bone in his PD home. Looks great ![]() Re: New kitchen colours - help please!!! 20Apr 23, 2008 10:33 pm ![]() I also like Alabaster... You rang??? ![]() tdn, hope you don't mind me jumping into your thread since I have the same question about colours for our kitchen. We have satin poly doors in an Antique White (ie, off-white/creamy) and Caesarstone Almond Rocca benches. Want to tile the splash-back. We're thinking of just a plain, slightly textured white tile to maximise light, but trying a white tile against it I'm worried it might make the splash-back "jump out" a bit too much. Would that happen? We're thinking of either a diamond pattern using 100x100 tiles, or stretcher bond pattern using rectangular tiles. No border or feature tiles, as most of the splash-back will be 450mm high. Any suggestions? Hi all, First homebuilder here. I want my kitchen to appear larger.
