Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 23, 2008 9:17 am Hi guys,
Im thinking about installing a Kitchen made from Laminex in the ColourTech range, which are 2 pac polyurethane painted doors. Has anyone got them in their house or thinking of getting them installed? Would love to hear your feedback - good or bad. Building a custom designed Edwardian home with a boutique builder. Currently waiting on plans. Re: Laminex ColourTech Kitchens - What do you think? 3Apr 23, 2008 12:11 pm I am assuming that you are planning on using the Laminex "Readikit" carcass system and ordering the doors as well?
Just bear in mind that with the Laminex painted doors the doors have to get drilled for hinges after they are delivered (and obviously after they are painted). A LOT of cabinet makers don't like doing this, so if you find someone to do it for you you will be doing well. Being careful not to scratch paint while drilling a kitchen worth of drawers is not a fun job for an installer/cabinetmaker. If the cabinetmaker is coordinating the doors he will make sure that they are drilled for his carcasses before painting. Local painting also means local fixing if anything goes wrong...I won't even tell you about the THREE kitchen sets of doors I had to get delivered from Laminex before they got it right...and this meant getting the miserable things fabricated, shipped from Sydney/Melbourne to Brisbane, unpacked, examined, tell Laminex they are wrong, and do it again. But that is of course just my opinion. Cheers, Earl Re: Laminex ColourTech Kitchens - What do you think? 4Apr 23, 2008 3:46 pm that was a great reply
I can now see why my cabinetmaker wanted me to go with his 2pac guy (though the others are still nice looking) he also said he prefered to know which handles so they can drill them at the workshop (not onsite) with 2 pac finish particularly do they prefer to drill the holes before the finish goes on (to prevent possible damage as you mention above) or is it always done after? No. It's not original.
