Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 15, 2013 2:13 pm Hi everyone! I'm a newbie, and a little bit scared. This building job is only just about to start but I am already overwhelmed so I thought I'd come and hang out with some people who are doing it. I need you! Anyway, my first question is does anyone know of a place I can buy oak (or other) hardwood laminated timber benchtops in WA? There is a place through ebay in Queensland selling oak in long lengths of 3050mm at a great price, but freight across the country almost doubles it. Bunnings does have something similar, but they are well overpriced, and some of the pieces of timber oddly have exposed end grain. I am pretty sure that's not good, oiled, varnished or otherwise for a kitchen. Well, I'd love your opinions as, with a bit of work and care, I'd love to have the warmth of timber benchtops in, not only my kitchen but my bathroom and laundry too. RognKaz Re: Timber Benchtops 3Apr 24, 2013 10:11 am You would be able to sorce timber bench tops from most cabinet makers in your area. Re: Timber Benchtops 5Oct 12, 2013 3:20 pm Gosh it's been a while since I started looking for timber benchtops. Now the build is happening, and I still haven't found what I'm looking for. This is my best lead so far - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hardwood-Tim ... 27d77db2cf because they do a 3.6m long section! No ugly joins required! This is my main goal. I have a kitchen bench 3.49m long. Sweet. But these are all in Queensland. I am in south west wa. So far away, and transport is very costly. Ikea and Bunnings have very short lengths, and yes a local cabinet maker could do what I want, but it's so expensive. The oak from ebay would be so cost effective if it wasn't so far away. I am going to see a timber supplier this week, to see if he can do marri without raw edges, at a more affordable cost. Marri is so pretty. Cross your fingers everyone, and regardless, I shall show you photos. But, if anyone has any further thoughts, love to hear them. Cheers Re: Timber Benchtops 6Oct 14, 2013 5:47 am Its personal taste but I hate those tops. They are called Gluelam tops and are basically made from off cuts. They use very norrow 40mm pieces of timber and glue them all together. Wide lamination tops look so much better. Here is the website, the may have a distributor. http://www.dgi.com.au/bench.html Hope this helps.
