Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 28, 2013 8:33 pm Hi, I had a new kitchen put in a few years ago. the vinyl on one of the cupboards next to the underbench oven has started to peel away. I spoke to the supplier as we have a 10 year warranty and I have been advised that the heat from the oven has caused the peeling. I would agree with this. the cabinet supplier tells me that the oven was incorrectly fitted by the electrician as it is not fitting flush with the front of cabinets. It protrudes about 1cm and therefore the heat from the side is not being protected by the timber edging. I have been told that it is industry standard for electricians to install ovens flush and not protruding. I have not yet taken it up with the electrician. want to get my facts straight first. I suspect i am going to have a situation of the cabinet supplier blaming the electrician and the electrician blaming the quality of the cabinet. just wondering if anyone on the forum has any opinion on this. are all underbench ovens sitting flush with the cabinets or is it normal for them to protrude a little? thanks Re: Installing underbench oven 2Mar 28, 2013 9:04 pm The cabinet maker builds the kitchen and is responsible for where the oven sits in relation to the doors. The oven is then installed and screwed off by the electrician. Where the oven sits is usually set by how the kitchen has been built. I dont see how the oven protruding has caused the problem though. Its vinyl wrap it was going to happen no matter how the oven was installed. It has nothing to do with the electrician.
