Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 21, 2013 1:21 pm we discovered during flue dampener checks organised by the body corporate of our high rise, that the flue above our range hood had quite a significant split. As a result of this, grease and cooking oils were leaking and pooling around the exterior of the flue, this was flagged at the time by the company conducting the dampener checks as a potential fire risk. contractors came to check the flue 2 days ago and in short, the flue itself does not fit all the way down to the collar of the rangehood. not happy. building management was called and they acknowledged the flue did appear not to fit the collar, they left. apart from the flue not fitting and with a split, we are concerned by the amount of grease and oils pooling around - it does to us appear excessive for a number of reasons - we do not reside here 6 months of the year each year on average, when in residence we often eat out, when we do cook, we do not cook fatty, greasy food. why there would be so much grease and oil above our rangehood around our flue - are other apartments grease and oils being sucked up high and leaking into ours? there is a restaurant on site - would there exhausts be leaking into our flue? how would the plumbing/ventilation work in a high rise such as ours? thanks.
