... apparently those figures have at least 1 zero's worth of difference in them - go figure Seriously though - for me its matching 2 different cabinet colours, bench tops, flooring and wall colours - but I think I have it sorted now Fiona Re: When designing your kitchen??? 3Apr 21, 2008 4:50 am My preference is incorporating plenty of bench space, good sized drawers and cupboards, along with uncramped conditions, and plenty of natural light. I’m not a fan of kitchens that require lights burning during the day.
On top of this is ventilation and air movement in the kitchen area, especially during summer. I’ve been in plenty of kitchens where due to their placement there is little benefit from the cooling system. Re: When designing your kitchen??? 5Apr 21, 2008 6:00 pm Shady The hardest I've found to put together is....My wife and the Kicthen. The two seem to just stay apart no matter what I do. Flame jacket on! .......................Take it easy on me Love it ……the only time I’m in my kitchen is to get a scotch a few times a night, and to pass through it to get to the lounge room. Working 2 jobs makes it hard to be in the kitchen. Some of my neices and nephews have a saying about their mums cooking. "Smoke alarms are cooking timers!!! When they go off - it means diners cooked So smoke alarms are must in some kitchens Steve Re: When designing your kitchen??? 10Apr 21, 2008 9:53 pm Michelle What have you found to be the hardest to put together? 1. The actual design of the island bench. I want it to be unique but still functional and spacious. 2. The overall look of the kitchen. I love the european style kitchens but it takes effort and alot of research to get one made by a cabinet maker. 3. getting the right hidden handles to complement the cabinets. 4. Mixing materials together....granite, glass splashbacks, 2 pac cupboards etc to make it into one slick looking kitchen. 4. Colours of all the above 5. Not having a kitchen specialists guide me...the cabinet maker will make any thing I want but I have got to come up with the ideas. 6. Spending too much money on kitchen magazines, hoping that one day I will see my dream kitchen then realising it aint gonna happen. 7. Focussing too much mental energy on a kitchen that isnt real and I need a life Mrs B Re: When designing your kitchen??? 11Apr 21, 2008 10:10 pm Mrs; B said.

Firstly having my kitchen against an angled wall. As a result my island bench is on an angle. Looks great but ended up costing my big $$. (I blame the architect on that one)! As a result my island bench is on an angle. Looks great but ended up costing my big $$. (I blame the architect on that one)! Ooooh , our designer has drawn an angled wall in our kitchen too. I take it you would advise against it. I was wondering about this the other day.....will it really be worth the extra $$$$$. Would you do it again??? I have a thing about items moving to the back and then needing to be thrown out 2 years later <bit like our fridge>.
Second hardest was deciding on the flooring i.e. I wanted tiles in the kitchen, but it was hard to match the wooden floors, cupboards and benchtops in an open area. So for us it was pantry and flooring. Re: When designing your kitchen??? 17Apr 23, 2008 8:09 am My tupperware drawer
