Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 10, 2013 4:49 pm Hello Everyone, This is my very first post! We have just bought our first home and we are keen to start the renos. The current kitchen has a great layout and I think quite new. All the shelves and cupboards are in perfect condition, soooo I was thinking of replacing the doors, draws and bench top ourselves with some ikea ones. Is that possible? Thanking everyone in advance! Re: Ikea Kitchen? 2Mar 10, 2013 5:19 pm You can also purchase doors, drawer fronts and bench tops from your local cabinet maker. You will have a much larger selection of quality materials too! You may be better off getting your fronts and benchtop from a local cabinetmaker, as you may have trouble getting the correct sizes from ikea. Their sizing is quite limited, both in width, and certainly the heights of the doors. Ikea's kitchens are modular and come in standard sizing, and require fillers to fit into your room. Worth checking out, though. I recently replaced some kitchen doors in a rental property, the width fits perfectly but the Ikea doors are tiny bit too short. I ended up covering the 2cm gap with some aluminium strips. If you really want to use pre-made doors, Bunnings may have more choices in terms of width and height. I did look at Bunnings ones but I didn't have much time as my tenants were moving in in a few days and Bunnings didn't have the material I wanted (I wanted stainless steel to replace some heat-damaged vinyl doors around the cooktop). Re: Ikea Kitchen? 6Mar 11, 2013 1:04 am Ikea's creamy stone-look glossy bench top is so gorgeous, my sister has it, it's so pretty. They have a crappy range of handles and doors though. Looks good. The joiner has come back with a quote of close to 5k. I think we are going to not do it. Attaching panelling is something they are dead… 11 10083 The gap can be adjusted so it's tighter. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 8581 No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 3664 |
