Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 22, 2013 12:16 am Hi all Have previously had glass splash back in my Previous build and loved it. This time we are doing an all white kitchen of essastone New Basmatc for our counter tops and White Sheen Polytic cupboards ...but it's not like is to be that plain so going for a black splashback for maximum Impact and contrast. Our building doesn't do glass splash back at all so as another option we have looked as these high gloss large black tiles called Fashion black from Crosbys with black groute that is really quite reflective but haven't seen any pics with this type of thing despite searching and searching the net. ?? Does anyone have any pics like this of their kitchen ?..Just not sure whether to make the splurge for glass splashback and get that installed on our own or to go with the black reflective tiles Thanks in advance Re: Black High Gloss Tiles or back glass splash back?. Pictu 2Feb 22, 2013 9:57 am I have pmed you since you pmed me but for reference will post here for others with a similar query. The black tiles we picked were small ones. Originally we were having large silver grey tiles with zinc cabinetry and a black granite bench top. Here are a couple of pics. I took 2 small shots today( kitchen is a mess so they are snippets) and have added a couple of shots from my build blog. After 3 years out kitchen is still not painted so the walls are bare plaster colour. The walls will be painted in Wattyl-Igloo Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Black High Gloss Tiles or back glass splash back?. Pictu 4Feb 23, 2013 8:37 am ours is a big area. I did like the idea of a glass splash back for stove areas but given our really long bench area as well and that I wanted the same for both I'd have stuck with tiles. If I'd had an open bench I might have gone glass. We only had 2 days to decide on new tiles after having to change our entire kitchen colours. I still really like the tiles as a backdrop for the granite bench. They are completely plain, no ripples and gloss. You need to consider your bench colour and type as part of your decision. Our original bench colour granite was( we thought) fairly plain and so the tiles we were going to have were more of a feature. When we discovered that the granite in a big piece looked nothing like the sample and we didn't like it we had to decide on a new granite on the spot. The only granite we both liked was very much patterned so we no longer wanted tiles that were fussy/busy/or as much of a feature. It was also completely different in colour. So large granite sample seen on a saturday, new granite chosen on the spot. Tiles picked on the following monday and tuesday after work. Black laminate chosen for cupboards and kickboards. ( I'd change this bit if I was doing it again. The black laminate always looks dirty) Selection meeting on the Wednesday. Thank goodness we happened to make the 3 1/2 hour trip to the city for a family gathering and decided to call in to the granite supplier. We would have been horrified with the original granite choice if it had been installed. Re: Black High Gloss Tiles or back glass splash back?. Pictu 5Feb 26, 2013 9:22 pm Hi Tanial81 Can't help you with black tiles, but thought pics of our tiled splashback might help. We have a mocha tiled splashback which we love, which gives a similar mirrored finish like glass. By using large tiles, you get minimal grout lines. Very easy to clean, like glass. There should be similar sized tiles to these in black available. Pictu 10Mar 02, 2013 3:49 pm Just an extra thought as well. The tiles we laid ourselves, so the all up cost was about $125. That was a big winner against glass or similar splashbacks. Being so large it only took two stages. Just had to wait for the glue to dry and then grout and done.
