Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 11, 2013 8:56 am Hi Everyone.. we need some thoughts and suggestions for our island bench, we have purchased an established home and the dishwasher is plumbed in the island bench but with no electricity, rather than cutting through the tiles, we came up with the idea of stainless steel column/beam ( to keep in with the s/s rangehood and lights) or similar fitted from ceiling to benchtop, with the power hidden inside, we aren't sure where we could purchase something like this, would any one know? thank you.. How did this happen ? Is the floor wood or cement ? If wood then you'd go under. But slab, ... well ... A channel across the kitchen floor from benches to island bench - then tile over - would not cost too much and if done along a tile line wouldn't be that noticeable either. Hard to believe they'd do this ! Re: Power to island bench 3Feb 11, 2013 9:05 am I have no idea, house is only 3 yrs old maybe at prestart they didn't have someone with a brain! Yeah slab with big tiles, we are not sure of being able to match them though if they had to be cut through. in the grout is a possibility though, thank you for that idea. Not sure of length - but an electric wire is not large - in diameter. Thus - cut out grouting and a tiny bit of tile - then regrout over. Might just look like a larger than normal grouting ... Wouldn't be that noticeable if in a darker spot - ie look for the shadow. Re: Power to island bench 5Feb 11, 2013 10:29 am Have you checked how the waters coming in? Mine has a PVC conduit from main bench to island built into slab. The plastic water pipes and power are fed through this. If it has the conduit, a sparky should be able to get a cable through. You could slide a "hook" from from the IB through the water conduit, to the benches - and then just pull the electric flex through. Not sure on water/electrical thing though. One of the experts might know ? Re: Power to island bench 7Feb 11, 2013 2:37 pm Saint Mike jamie_nic I have no idea, house is only 3 yrs old maybe at prestart they didn't have someone with a brain! I personally think it would stick out like a sore thumb! I dont think you will have any luck with the water conduit. It will most probably just be a water line chased into the slab and then cemented/ tiled over. Help!! Re: Power to island bench 11Feb 11, 2013 9:43 pm When my house was built they put in a large conduit (90-100mm) that both water and electricity. They put the electrics in a flexible conduit. It goes from the bench to the double brick. Would imagine they did something similar with the conduit Re: Power to island bench 12Feb 11, 2013 9:55 pm jamie_nic Ok thank you everyone, our original idea of adding hollow columns to run the wiring through, either end of the island bench which would balance the look and be the neatest and easiest, but we don't know where we could buy something that would suit, would need decorative couplings etc. top and bottom (ie, ceiling then where it joins bench). Help!! Go to an electrical wholesaler and ask to look through their catalogues. Names escape me for the moment for the best peoducts, did one of these posts years ago and it looked OK when finished (in brushed aluminium) DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you going to have the frame exposed or are you cladding it with something. Usually if you are making an exposed frame you would use solid legs around 100x100 or… 3 6585 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 14234 2 15465 |
