Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 10, 2013 11:02 pm Hi all, I'm in the VERY early stages of designing a kitchen, and thought I ask about one little design element I'm considering - a freestanding oven. By freestanding, I actually mean that. Around it would be 1000mm-1250mm of walkways (between it and benches/walls). Like an island. It would have a 3 sided bench around it, so that there's some setdown space to the left and right (about 50cm). At the back there'd be a bit less, say 20cm. Not so much for setdown, but rather a poor version of a splashback. I don't recall seeing this before, which makes me think it's the dumbest idea ever. I'm not at all wedded to the idea, and I'm simply after advice/pros/cons. thanks. Re: Freestanding oven 3Feb 12, 2013 1:07 pm here you go. http://imgur.com/XqtY5wi yeah, a large kitchen. As I said, very early stage of design. thanks Re: Freestanding oven 5Feb 13, 2013 11:44 am Agree MR2. I love the look of some of the large freestanding ovens - they look like the old country style ranges ( check out La Canche http://www.google.com.au/url?q=http://w ... L7Sh9mmLAA ) , but for our new kitchen it will be two side by side wall ovens - so much easier on your back and no singed eyebrows either. I'd also prefer one run of bench too. I don't think there would be anything to gain by having the break and I think it would look strange. I am not a fan of stoves off the walls mainly because of the rangehoods that have to go above them. I saw one recently that went all the way up to a raked ceiling and it reminded me of a factory. But this is all personal choice and if you are set on having your stove like this spend many hours on google and you should find something you like. Bit of a hike. The break/gap between the oven and the sink allows access to the fridge. I am playing with a redesign that gets rid of the two freestanding (oven and sink) by moving them against the wall (either side of the fridge). With a 4mx4m pantry and a 6m island I don't think I'll need the cupboards either side of the fridge (as per my current plan). This version has the sink and over positions swapped, so that the sink is closer to the pantry. I think there will be a lot of traffic between island and pantry, and I'd rather people walking past the sink than the stove top. grumblebum54 I am not a fan of stoves off the walls mainly because of the rangehoods that have to go above them. If you get a nice one. grumblebum54 But this is all personal choice and if you are set on having your stove like this spend many hours on google and you should find something you like. I googled a bit, didn't find much. In fact, the first pic (of a stove/oven island) that I found was a feng shui website saying it was a no-no! That doesn't bother me, but I might not mention it to the missus... thanks all Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
