Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 02, 2013 6:59 pm Hi everyone, Hubby and I are about to renovate our kitchen in the next couple of months (after procrastinating for YEARS!) and would like to know from others who've been there and done that what you would change if you could do your kitchen all over again. We have a kitchen designer but we're a bit overawed with all of the options and we need h.e.l.p! I'm particularly interested in.. - Sinks - did you do undermount or drop in, what made you choose this option and do you love/hate your choice? - Taps - how did you decide? Has anyone got one of those taps with a vegie spray? Do you love it or hate it? - Kickboards - what have you got, would you have done it differently? We are thinking of mirrored kickboards, has anyone got those? How much of a nightmare are they to keep clean? - Rangehood - what style have you got and what brand? Love or hate it? - Drawers - is there no such thing as too many drawers? We are going for a white kitchen, but don't want a stark cold white colour. We're thinking about poly cabinets in Dulux Natural White with a glass splashback in the same colour and caesarstone white snow benchtop. Whole kitchen will have no handles, with the exception of the pull out pantry (I am drooling just thinking about the pull out pantry!). Wall and pantry cupboard doors will extend to the ceiling. Our other walls are painted in Dulux Grand Piano 1/4 strength, floors are a gloss finish select grade 80mm blackbutt. If anyone has any great tips on "must do" or "must avoid", I'd love to hear them! *2fk* Re: If you could do it all over again.... 2Feb 02, 2013 10:25 pm Thanks for reminding me about undermount sinks. I'm in the process of getting a build underway and will need to think carefully about this one. After seeing a kitchen display today, I was worried about there being no drainer, however a quick google confirmed you can get undermount sinks with drainers. I also love the dorf jovian style, and have been leaning towards the pull down sink mixer, is this the one you're getting? Hoping to address that in the new kitchen. What colour is your kitchen? I know you have the Dulux Harbour blue (love it, gorgeous colour) splashback, did you go with white cupboards? We're definitely going to do a pull out bin, we want an integrated one (so easy to spend lots of money on this stuff) - similar to this.. At $300 bucks its a killer, anyone who thinks that their Villeroy and Bosh at $1800 bucks is worth it or better quality needs a reality check. Its a seriously huge sink from memory 640 deep and 860 wide (Relying on my memory...pffft) Were not going to undermount it. Were hoping to make a feature of it Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ For $30 bucks you can buy a groovy chopping board and a seperate stainless steel vegie strainer made for it from Ikea. If I may I will offer you my two cents worth on anyone who tries to charge you $1995 for a 316 Stainless Steel Butlers Sink(from the above Link). I was in China last April for the Canton Trade Fair. We did a tour of some stainless steel production facilities making similar products.(including toilets for prisons) The depth of the item(Butlers sink) would neccesitate some specialised tooling but its not a big deal, I would estimate the cost at perhaps $130 Dollars Australian. Thats not a bad mark-up is it ($130-$1995). Say I'm really wrong and it cost $200 Bucks to make, I think I still have a point. I was astonished when I saw that a typical price for 316 SS sinks(undermount) were close to a grand.................Two grand is madness, in my view it needs branded Dior to make any sense I did get a laugh a couple of months ago when a bloke was flogging his Domsjo on ebay for $450 Bucks as I recall.....very enterprising wasn't he.
