DRAWER HEIGHTS: What is the norm over the standard height of 900(-100kick-40top)- 760mm cabinet - assuming 3 drawers - Should I have the bottom 2 drawers the same height and a smaller top one...or biggest on the bottom - middle smaller and top smaller still..... which way is the most useful and which looks the most pleasing to the eye ( all handless). I will have a pot drawer (what size is the norm)?? under the oven housing on the other wall run, and also a 4 drawer unit over on the island by the sink and dishwasher..(2 x cutlery, 1 x cups/glasses, and 1 with tea/coffee etc) reason being that we will have a BILLIE TAP and use this for drinks so putting the tea coffee bits over there... thoughts & suggestions welcome on this too.... DRAWER WIDTHS : I have a run of top and bottom cupboards - 3530mm. oven hob is in the centre (600mm) with a 700mm curved glass hood over. I am having 3 top cupboards each side with a glass one in the centre of each run. How many drawer units should I have on the base cabinet run - 3 or 5 ?? I want a central one as I think that looks more visually pleasing than having a join down the centre of the hob - so which would look more pleasing 3 or 5 drawers??? ( all handless). I dont mind if they are not all equal width, but it would need to look symmetrical whatever I decide... Re: kitchen drawer sizes - width and height 2Jan 26, 2013 10:44 pm I would say 5 drawer units on the base cabinet run; to do three, they would have to be very wide and in my experience, that wide would be awkward. Alternatively, do three but have a relatively narrow cupboard at each end to keep the drawer widths down and use the cupboards for vertical storage of things like trays and cutting boards. As for heights, you might find this thread of use: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=62214 I lean towards three different heights; shallow at the top, medium in the middle and deepest at the bottom but I have seen shallow top and two equal depth for middle and bottom and they looked fine. I think it probably depends on what you want to put in the drawers as to what will suit you best. Land settled May '14. Blog: http://jyndeira.net/blog/ Re: kitchen drawer sizes - width and height 3Jan 27, 2013 10:03 am Mt last kitchen I had 3 sets of small top drawer and 2 big drawers under. I didn't like it as i found the middle drawer too deep as I wanted to put plates and teatowels in. So a lot of wasted space. The deep ones on the bottom I found good for pots and tupperware. Think what you have to put in them to decide how many really deep ones you want. Personally I needed more shallower ones. I am thinking really hard before puting in the next one (in a few months). I'm thinking either 2 shallow and 2 deeper ones under. Or one shallow and 3 a bit deeper. If you like the look of deeper ones you can get the layer ones where it's deep but there is a smaller sliding drawer inside it (more money of course). Re: kitchen drawer sizes - width and height 4Jan 27, 2013 5:02 pm One shallow drawer around 200mm high and then two equal deeper drawers below works really well. I do this in most of the kitchens I build and have never had any complaints. Re: kitchen drawer sizes - width and height 7Jan 27, 2013 11:01 pm We have three sets of pot draws. The top one is 180 and the difference is split between the bottom two, which I think is about 310 each. We also have left in a standard set of cutlery draws, they work out to about 200 deep each. Wish I had thought through all of this better and I would have made all the top draws 200 each. I plan on using the shallow ones for cutlery, glad wrap etc, coffee mugs and spices. The dealer ones will have the plates/bowls, baking dishes and trays and pots etc. Spend as much time as you can planning the kitchen layout. Use graph paper, then you can draw it to scale and get an idea of what it will look like. Re: kitchen drawer sizes - width and height 9Feb 02, 2013 11:30 pm We have 2 banks of 900mm wide drawers, 2 banks of 650mm wide drawers and 1 bank of 450mm wide. The drawer heights for all of these are 200mm for the top one and about 300mm each for the remaining two. We have 2 pot drawers under the wall oven towers which are 400mm high. ETA: also have a bank of 700mm wide with same heights. Forgot! What is the total height of your kitchen, kickboard (legs), cabinets (800mm) and benchtop? Re: kitchen drawer sizes - width and height 12Feb 03, 2013 12:40 pm Dunno the inside height as it hasn't been built yet. The total height is 943 - stone bench top of 20 or possibly 30 - 120 for kicks. So about 793-803 I guess? They build them to spec though so you can make your benchtop higher or lower to suit the height you want (and the height you want your drawers/cupboards to be I suppose). By the way I based our kitchen drawer heights on info from another thread in this forum and it seems to be close to the standard.
