Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 19, 2013 4:47 pm Hi, Would welcome comments, suggestions etc re kitchen and vanity doors (handless) in 2 pac or acrylic. I really like the new acrylic, and have been told it is better than 2 pac because it doesnt chip whereas 2 pac can. but then I was told that you dont see the edges of the cupboards in 2 pac but because acrylic is a sheet you can see the edges?? I know there are probably more colour choices in 2 pac, but acrylic does seem to look so deep with the gloss look.... Anybody out there had experience of either or both....any comments, suggestions please... Re: doors - 2 pac or acrylic ? 2Jan 21, 2013 6:18 am Acrylic what?? Acrylic can be a paint, plastic, resin or glass. You can have 2pac paint and acrylic paint. Who makes the product you are talking about and what is its name and colur? The acrylic is not paint..it is a board - like a plastic. Kitchen connections, and freedom do it and it is also made by a company in Sydney called FORM-TEK they call them ULTRA GLAZE DOORS. "ULTRAGLAZE DOORS ARE CONSTRUCTED USING LOW EMISION EO EVNIRONMENTALLY ACCREDITED BOARD. THE HIGHLY SCRATCH RESISTANT MIRROR FINISH SURFACE IS A TOTALLY RECYCLABLE ABS/ACRYLIC THAT IS BONDED USING STATE OF THE ART PUR ADHESIVE" ...........(O2 9832 2033) If that is any help - I welcome your comments as I have seen these finishes and they look very deep and glossy, but then as I said before someone said the edges can be seen...so I dont know.... Re: doors - 2 pac or acrylic ? 4Jan 21, 2013 10:58 am Ok, but thats not actually refered to as an acrylic door. The are about 30 different products that would full under this heading. But thank you for giving me more info so I can the right info. Anyone that says Ultraglaze or any of the pre finished boards are better than 2pac are telling fibs. Its better for the factory production as it gets cut and fitted to the cabinets and then sent straight out for installation. With 2pac the doors need to be cut then sent out to a painter for spraying and then installed ready for installation. A 2pac kitchen takes longer to produce and ties up space in the factory more than a prefinished board. 2pac only chips if given a hard knock with metal objects. The same knock would put a small mark in most other doors! 2pac can be repaired and repainted at anytime in its life by any painter, even car smash repairers can respray them. No other product can be repaired. 2pac can be done in any colour and any finish. That meens there are 1000s of colours. It can be sprayed in any colour from any of the major paint suppliers. It can be sprayed in matt, satin, semi gloss and full gloss! Ultraglaze is supplied in 2400x1200 sheets. It is then cut to size and the edges finished off ABS edge. So yes the edges are totally seen. Some people hate it and some people are fine with it. So can I get the really deep gloss look for 2 pac? IS it down to the finish of paint, or the amount of coats? Re: doors - 2 pac or acrylic ? 6Jan 21, 2013 11:03 am I also assume...that the only advantage with acrylic is that you can have patterns on it - ie wood grain look etc etc, whereas 2 pac will be only a colour (although I think you can have a routered pattern - but that is not what I mean) Re: doors - 2 pac or acrylic ? 7Jan 21, 2013 11:18 am chatterbox I also assume...that the only advantage with acrylic is that you can have patterns on it - ie wood grain look etc etc, whereas 2 pac will be only a colour (although I think you can have a routered pattern - but that is not what I mean) I put 2pac in my own kitchen and I have 3 and 5 year olds. No chips yet. 2pac is pretty much the same product as the paint on your car. Normal gloss 2pac wouldnt be as glossy as Ultraglaze but wouldnt be far off. All 2pac doors can have anyone of 30-40 different routered patterns and can also be sprayed in metalics. Just what I heard... Anyone know if that's true because I'm also wondering whether to get poly or acrylic - prefer the seamless poly but have young kids so want something that durable and not toxic and not bad for the enviro too... Really? Who told you that an Alaskan Ice salesman? 2pack is sprayed in proper spray booths exactly the same as cars. They have proper filtration systems so I wouldn't consider either finish as better for the environment. They both have exactly the same substrate its just the thin top coating that differs. Have you considered that a lot of companies prefer acrylic because they make more money on it and have the job sitting in the factory for less time than polyurethane. Acrylic doors can scratch and if you need to fix one you have to buy a full 2400x1200 sheet to replace one door. That's assuming that the colour is still available! With 2pack any spray painter (even car spray painters) can refinish a door at anytime. Its a simple job to match the paint colour and then respray. You can also get touch up kits for 2pack that you can do a home! I have a 2pack kitchen and only have one chip in it after 4 years and that was when my wife got a metal serving spoon caught between drawer fronts! I have 2 kids under 6 and they haven't marked it yet!
