Perhaps start a new thread about garages and what may or may not fit in them! Sorry guys, not trying to be mean, but if someone is in here browsing for info about the topic, they may be disheartened and stop reading when the subject goes off on a tangent. I'm finding it hard to keep up myself as I just started a TAFE course a couple of weeks ago. Hey Nina! Great that you've come to a decision on the study area. I was going to suggest you buying your furmiture and actually putting it in position to see how it worked first, but isn't t difficult when there's so much to choose from? Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 243Feb 14, 2013 4:34 am here is a pic of my study area in progress Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ over head cupboards the niche at the side in the niche thinking glass shelves? the essastone benchtop new basmati same as kitchen under drawers this will also have the intercom for the front thanks jodge for the great ideas Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 244Feb 14, 2013 1:03 pm I haven't read this entire thread but thought this thread may be interested in this. I'm looking to use http://www.diyaustralia.com/ to fit out my study and it is tons cheaper than any local quote I could find. I'm not affiliated with them I just found them recently and it seems cheap and simple. Delivered flat packed I believe. Toughen Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 245Feb 14, 2013 1:46 pm Thanks toughen, that website is soooo great... great ideas, great advice plus it gives you prices.. What a good find... Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 246Feb 26, 2013 10:32 pm Well done Rocky. .. must be almost finished by now? Looking great, love the front door. The essastone will be fab too. In case everyone didn't know, Ikea have a special offer on at the moment, for Ikea Family members (free to join online), where you spend $250 and get a $25 voucher in the post. It's unlimited I think, so spend $500, get $50 and so on. So I just had to sort out my plans for the pantry and laundry and get on down there and buy my cabinetry. I've put up three shallow cabinets in the laundry, for the catfood etc. . . and I haven't started on the pantry yet. . . that's a big job. I have to hack a couple of the base cabinets before I start ripping out any existing shelving. I did call a supplier from the offcuts.com.au website, and he's given me a rough quote of approximately $350 for a piece of 3000 x 600mm stone benchtop (colour depends on what he has in stock, just something like a white or beige, not too fussed), the price includes cutting and polishing. Beauty! I decided against the Billy book cases in the end, as they'd have to deal with quite a bit of weight. Went for the Faktum high pantries instead, a bit more expensive, but hopefully will be sturdier. More to follow. . . as I progress. Thanks for the website toughen. I had a look at a couple of these online companies when I was thinking about the pantry, but as I don't want doors, they just couldn't compare with Ikea's $15 for a 300 x 700 carcass. Definitely worth a look if you're going for the whole package though. I remember we paid $2200 for our laundry fitout (3 years ago). .. laminate benchtop, laminate cabinets. . . a double door cabinet (with sink) and two laundry hampers along the bottom and a broom cupboard at the end. . . we thought it was pretty cheap at the time. . . now I'm doing my pantry fitout, with a stone benchtop for around $1000. . . bargain! After some rejigging of my plan I now have two study nooks, Eurpoean laundry and bigger walk in pantry to fit out. I think a trip to Ikea is in my future (just need to loose the kids and other half for the day so I can enjoy it!) Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 250Feb 27, 2013 10:18 am Yes indeedy Stacey. http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/00175518/ You can get all sorts of sizes. Click on the drop down menu and the price changes accordingly. Rationell shelves are sold seperately. Good luck offloading the kids! Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 251Feb 27, 2013 10:21 am SunshineT Great price on the stone jodge! Of course we want progress pics. DH also took the view that Faktum was sturdier... Thanks T. Fingers crossed we can actually get it through the pantry door. . . It'll have to go in before we start building up any cupboards, logistical nightmare! I thought that, as it's going to be built in, better to be safe with the faktum. Am keeping the shelves narrow too, to avoid sagging. Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 252Feb 27, 2013 10:56 am Speaking of Billys (...awhile ago. Ok, I'm reaching. But whatever.) look at this! http://www.ikeahackers.net/2011/07/fren ... brary.html </hijak> - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013. Our thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67954 Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 253Mar 02, 2013 8:33 am Thanks Jodge, don't know how I missed that. The billys have 30kg per shelf so I'm still thinking that might be a good idea, some of the pantry shelves only hold 15kg. We moved our internal access from the pantry to the home theatre wall so now I only need to allow for the doorway between the pantry/kitchen so get much more useable space thats easier to plan around. I'm thinking proper cabinet bases and a benchtop along my long wall with some shelving above, freezer in the smaller corner and then some billy's in an L shape for the other corner. Something like this very quick very bad paint pic! Also love the woodgrain effect on all of the shelves, makes it look V traditional. Like a proper library. Hi staceyd! I never thought about looking at the load factors for each shelf. I think that having two 400 shelves instead of 1x800 shelf should be a lot stronger, so I'm trying to keep my shelf lengths as short as possible (though I've found that my breadmaker doesn't fit on a 400 wide shelf, so am getting 600 wide for that side). It's a logistical nightmare, I tell ya! I agree that a benchtop in the pantry is good, can't wait to have somewhere proper to put my sandwich (kebab) toaster, toaster, coffee grinder etc. . . so I never have to put them away again! Lovely pic by the way, if you tell me the dimensions of your pantry (and fridge), maybe I'll find time to plot the cabinets in there, to scale? Looks like you may be able to turn your freezer round by 90 degrees and fit something down the side, maybe brooms or something? Oooh, elfa...what's that? Must google Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 256Mar 07, 2013 7:20 am jodge Hi staceyd! I never thought about looking at the load factors for each shelf. Fixed shelves are so much stronger than adjustable ones. I find 400 wide is a bit to narrow. A shelf 700mm wide and fixed is as strong as houses. You could even stand on it. So my preferance is fixed shelves for pantrys! The fixed shelves we have at the moment are super-strong, but because they span the whole wall I just find that things seem to get lost. I'm hoping that by having smaller "pigeon-hole" type storage, I'll get a bit more organisation (yes, I'm delusional). Oh, and the Ikea units are cheap. . . I suppose it depends what you're planning on storing too. I don't have too many things that will require storage to be wider than 400. It's a bit like having wardrobe storage for long clothes, we've only got a little section for long clothes, as we don't have many. . . everything else goes on doubled-up rails or shelves. Oh, thanks for the "offcuts" website. . . I'm very excited about getting my new piece of stone! (Might take me a while to reach that point though.) I'm going to hold on all the planning as we're having issues with our builder now so it looks like we might be starting the search all over again. I might take you up on that though if by some miracle they get their $*** together and we can go back to them. Lucky I didn't have time to schedule that Ikea trip yet after all!
