It took months to arrive from China. First section completed except for bulkhead. Moved the power-point, cut the carpet and replaced smooth-edge. Added a 10 mm strip along the wall, as the wall is not square then finished with NoMoreGaps. Screwed the top to the wall so no sideways movement. Now have made the plinth for the second one. Just got a sheet of melamine cut at the hardware shop and glued it together. Would have been better to mitre the corner but it is not too visible after iron-on melamine strip. Allowed 50 mm set-in, but found that too much for the size of the bookcases, so blocked it out 16 mm. Should have built a new one. Now have a job to relocate the second power-point and prepare the carpet. The smooth-edge nails into the concrete easy enough once I bought new strips. Wasn't able to successfully reuse the old ones. For example, this system is $569. There are a number of vendors. So far I could find sellers in Sydney and Melbourne. You can pickup to save on postage. Fair comment, I used my mobile but perhaps to do with how I transfered the photos. I have a bunch of photos here to more than make up. The skirting board prevents the consort from going flush against the wall. Figured either put up with that, or remove the skirting or lift the consort above the skirting. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I chose the last option as it is a built-in, so can't leave a gap. Will probably get some feet for the front so it looks better, but is currently securely fixed to the studs. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now just the bulkheads to do to tidy up. Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 294Sep 15, 2013 3:29 pm Oh wow birder, thank you so much, that is just brilliant! And this is the exact configuration that we need too, so great to see how yours turned out. Gosh, I would be terrified cutting the carpet in case I made a mistake, do you think you absolutely have to cut it?? Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Re: DIY Pantry / Study / Linen / Laundry / ANYTHING Fitout 295Sep 15, 2013 6:24 pm nina marie do you think you absolutely have to cut it?? YES!!! If you were to put the cabinet ontop of the carpet with the smooth edge at the back and corners the carpet compresses at much different rates and the cabinet will sag forward. It will never sit well and the door gaps will be next to impossible to adjust perfectly! I am sure they would do it for a bit of cash and it shouldn't be much as it would be a 10 minute job. I found it much easier than I thought it would be, just by putting the plinth in as a guide to mark the carpet, then making an allowance of about 1 cm. It is almost impossible to stuff it up if cutting with scissors on the waste side of the line. At the corner you will need to cut diagonally through to the line, but a slight overcut there wont be noticed. The hardest bit is to get the carpet hooked back on the smooth-edge. Remember to set the smoothedge back from the plinth about 1 cm to allow the carpet edge somewhere to tuck in. I am sure it will work well and you will be very happy with the results.
