Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 12, 2013 12:09 pm I got a lot of useful information from a thread I can't find now but am still unsure how to work out the heights of kitchen drawers. This is what I've worked out so far for 2 sets of 3 drawers along a wall bench which is 4100w x 700d x 920h, including oven sink dishwasher & washing machine. Can anyone tell me if the sizes I have estimated are feasible? The drawers will probably be handle-less. Spaces dont seem to work so I've put dashes between the columns 1. Two sets of 3 drawers 700w x 700d x 920h ----------- ----- outside ------ -- inside benchtop - 40mm - 40mm drawer 1 - 125mm - 90mm drawer 2 - 255mm - 215mm drawer 3 - 370mm - 340mm kickback - 130mm - 130mm Total -- ------ 920mm -------- 815mm Also on the same wall bench, one set of 2 drawers under sink benchtop - 40mm sink - 230mm drawer 1 - 260mm drawer 2 - 130mm kickback - 130mm Total - 920mm And for the island bench which is 2100 x 800w x 920h 1. One set of 2 drawers Drawer with pullout bins 530w x 800d x 540h Drawer underneath 530w x 800d x 210h benchtop - 40mm drawer 1 - 540mm (bins) drawer 2 - 210mm (underneath bins) kickback - 130mm Total - 920mm 2. Two sets of 3 drawers 785w x 800d x 920h ----------- outside ----- inside benchtop - 40mm - 40mm drawer 1 - 130mm - 100mm drawer 2 - 220mm - 180mm drawer 3 - 400mm - 340mm kickback - 130mm - 130mm Total ---- - 920mm ----- 790mm do these make sense?? Re: kitchen drawer heights inside & outside 2Jan 12, 2013 12:45 pm It really depends on the type of runners your going to have. For a 125mm high drawer front with standard runners the available internal height would be 80mm For a 125mm high drawer front with softclose runners the available internal height would be 74mm The above heights are for standard drawer fronts. If you are having sharknose handleless drawers then a 125mm high front would be useless becuase of the construction rails needed for the 45degree pull. So, what sort of runners and what type of handleless design are you having? Blum Tandembox maybe or a cheaper alternative if any good. Also don't know what type of handleless design, do you have any suggestions? is sharknose the only sort? Does that mean you can't have 125mm external drawer height with handleless drawers? I'm sure I've seen some at a friend's place - will check Re: kitchen drawer heights inside & outside 4Jan 12, 2013 1:20 pm Sharknose is where the back of the drawer front is cut on 45degrees and the front is set down 20mm to allow space for your fingers. A rail the same material as the drawer front is place behind the finger pull. This is normally 50mm high and is used everytime there is a finger pull. So if you have 3 drawer fronts you loose a total of 150mm drawer hight overall! You can also use an aluminium finger pull rail which is fitted to the top edge of all doors and drawers. You dont have the height issues with this type but you do end up with alot of aluminium. 125mm drawer height with softclose and sharknose would give around 66mm internally. Please also be aware with the sharknose handles the pot drawer depths are quite shallow. You can still fit a pot in them but couldnt stack most pots easily.
