Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 07, 2013 11:00 am We are currently building a new house, and have questioned our kitchen bench with the builder who initially said it is done, but to forward a photo of it to him! (He is on site supervising right?!?!)
I am curious if the others have information that can help, I think the joint is worse than a high school woodwork class standard, the builder so far seems to think this is up to standard for a large builder! Would anyone call this a 'Waterfall end'? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Your advice and information is appreciated, but I do not wish to get into a name and shame of the builder! Edit: Fix the image link Re: Kitchen Bench Joint 3Jan 07, 2013 11:18 am That doesn't look right to me! Though m not an expert I would not be happy Re: Kitchen Bench Joint 5Jan 07, 2013 11:48 am Found this old post about waterfall edges http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=6774&start=40 It mentioned there is two different finishes to do the waterfall. If that was my kitchen while I was have expected it be a mitred finish but either way I would have expected the end to at least meet the kitchen bench! Never seen one with a gap! Re: Kitchen Bench Joint 6Jan 07, 2013 12:02 pm fmac - I know, I could have possibly lived with a butt join, but that plate and the gap it creates are terrible! Even the SS's excuse/reason as to why is terrible, they don't do mitered joints anymore because of settling and cracking etc! So upset now, was looking forward to getting in soon, and now it's likely to be dragged out with this! Re: Kitchen Bench Joint 7Jan 07, 2013 12:28 pm Good luck getting it sorted! I really don't think what they have done is acceptable. I can only imagine how it mst make you feel! Re: Kitchen Bench Joint 8Jan 07, 2013 1:09 pm I am assuming its a square edge laminate top?? If it is laminate then its very hard to get a mitred waterfall finish, almost impossible. What they have done is totally unacceptable! Its terriable and I wouldnt stand for it! There shouldnt be any gap between the top and waterfall. They have use what looks like aluminium to join the two together. It should have been either a dowel or biscut joint without any gaps. Dont stand for it. Hold you ground and tell them you have spoken to trade proffesionals that wouldnt accept it. So upset, I wanted the laminate to wrap around the edge to seal the bench, but the wife got that call! And this just tops it all off! 2 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10947 Hi, I am planning to select San Selmo reclaimed original for the fascade of my build.
