Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Side by side fridge??? 2Dec 13, 2012 1:39 pm Hi tikalotte, I have a Westinghouse side by side fridge whicih I got 1 year ago and I am really dissapointed with it. The inside is just not big enough to fit large plates/platters or even large items. I have a family with 4 adults and it is too skinny to fit items in. It is a nuisance when you entertain as you just can't fit everything in. Thank goodness I don't have Christmas this year like last year... it was a nightmare. By chance my 2 Sisters also have the same fridges an they are disappointed as well. I am going to give mine to my son when he moves into his own home next year as it will only be 2 of them and then he can do what he wants with it and replace it with a bottom mount one. Just my opinion. Re: Side by side fridge??? 5Dec 13, 2012 8:56 pm We have the 700L Side by Side Westinghouse Fridge Freezer and have been thrilled with it. We got it in July and can fit heaps in it! We are a family of four and have lots of food etc to fit into the fridge. We especially love the two drawers for fruit and veg as we tend to eat heaps of it. We were looking at the Samsung French door Fridge Freezer but it was too deep to fit into the design of our new kitchen. Re: Side by side fridge??? 6Dec 14, 2012 12:40 am I have just ordered one of these babies; http://m.lg.com/au/fridges/lg-GR-D907SL Life The French door look of fridges, but most side by side ones I looked at are too small. Bigger the better I say. The door-in-door feature will come on handy. Pickup it up next week. 2 Re: Side by side fridge??? 8Dec 16, 2012 3:17 pm i have the bosch side by side with ice and water in the door of the freezer really happy with it, but we dont have large platters...depends how you live. Cos If i was a dinner party girl (we have 5 kids so a dinner party everynight I guess, minus the fancy food and plates) it would drive me nuts as it isnt very wide, but for us, it is perfect as the kids drink a heap of water now. Re: Side by side fridge??? 9Dec 17, 2012 4:35 am We have an LG side by side and I agree...it's too narrow in the fridge part. I've seen bigger than ours (ours is 608 litres) and thought they might be ok. I do like the freezer side though, I think there's more room than in an under/over freezer. We'd be lost at times if we didn't have an extra little fridge. Re: Side by side fridge??? 11Dec 21, 2012 10:13 am one of the main things with the LG that I recon lets it down is with the ice/water dispenser. They have a toggle button to switch between ice and water. I prefer the dual levers one for ice one for water, without the need to press a button to switch modes.... also the LG handles appear a little tacky to me.... it is personal choice, both good fridges Re: Side by side fridge??? 12Dec 29, 2012 8:08 am LG side by side here. At Christmas time it drives me in-sane! Thank God for my second fridge in the garage! Not enough room for anything of any substantial size. The freezer part is adequate though. The runners on the plastic veg compartments have broken a few times. Had them replaced under warranty but it will happen again (only adults here). The ice dispenser is great, couldn't live without one now have had a couple of hiccups with that but easy fixed. I have to say this fridge keeps me organised. I don't keep leftovers for long as there just isn't the room, so no scary, hairy findings weeks later. No, I don't think I would get one again, of any brand. Re: Side by side fridge??? 13Dec 29, 2012 11:55 am I did go looking at fridges again and found a great Westinghouse side by side which is 1m wide, if means the fridge is wider then the standard side by side, still not nearly as wide as the French door but it did get my interest as I love the size of the freezer you get with the side by side Re: Side by side fridge??? 14Dec 29, 2012 3:48 pm Hi fmac, That is the one I have and as per my previous posting it is too small in the fridge section for us and I will be giving it to my son when he has finished building his house and getting a bottom mount this time around. Make sure you are not making a mistake as you stated you would use platters in it. Could you take a platter with you and make the judgement then yourself as they are very deceiving inside. You may think it will fit by looking at it but it may not as I have found out. A huge dollar mistake to make!! The other half might not be keen on me taking a platter with me but better then be disappointed! I got into the bath at one of the display homes to see if it would be big enough I think I still do like the French door ones anyway... But who knows what new fridge design they will have by the time we even look at buying in 6 months! Re: Side by side fridge??? 16Jan 13, 2013 5:26 pm We have had a Westinghouse side by side for 7 years and has been great, only issue it wasn't wide enough to fit my daughters birthday cake in (board was about an inch too wide) but since moving into our new home we have a bosch French door with ice and water (Westinghouse side by side is now in the garage as a back up) I love it but find it annoying that there's not many shelves (I like to group things together) its huge so can fit heaps in no matter how wide they are. Considering you dont generally use the freezer as much as fridge they make sense for our family of 4. Bigger the better I agree - make sure u measure your space and leave space for ventilation. The draw just seems like it would be awkward Re: Side by side fridge??? 20Jan 15, 2013 10:26 am fmac The draw just seems like it would be awkward Yes, i didnt like the idea of big drawers as it just ends up being a big dumping ground and harder to keep track of what you have. I have multiple little clear drawers in my freezer section like a typical side by side fridge.
