Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 07, 2012 9:45 pm We have finally gotten our working drawings back for the kitchen and I am wondering about the pantry shelves. There is currently 400mm in height between each shelf (except between the bottom shelf and the floor which is 500mm). Would 450mm high be better? What's standard? What's best? We also could probably fit one more shelf in - it seems like a good idea to me but wondering what others have done or think about it? Here are the elevations: http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s505/SmithiesWife/KitchenLayoutdrawings.jpg I have other questions about the kitchen but I will post those in separate threads. Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 2Dec 07, 2012 10:42 pm Love the kitchen mock up! We have a similar set up for out pantry. We've pushed ours to the roof and they have said they will add another shelf. Consider pot draws in place of some of the cupboards, much easier to get to thanks at the back! But they are ecpnsive so consider where that might be needed. Did I say I love your kitchen?! Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 3Dec 07, 2012 10:43 pm Also on a second look, are you having a stone bench? Ate you happy with a join? I know essa stone is I think 3.05m long so we cut our bench back 10cm to avoid a join. Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 4Dec 07, 2012 10:46 pm Thanks fmac. I am loving it too especially being able to see it in 3D. Do you know what height your pantry shelves are at yet? I do think another shelf would be good - I may not be able to reach it but DH will. I have added another thread about the general layout. Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 5Dec 07, 2012 10:53 pm We had 500 then 400 and we said we wanted it pushed to the ceiling the prestart person said we would fit in another shelf so I am assuming another 400... I need to check out current pantry... I did see the other post after I commented in this one, it looks amazing, wish I had a scullery! I'm a huge fan of pot draws and I am pretty sure we weren't charge extra for changing the standard 4 draws they give you to 3 pot draws... Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 6Dec 07, 2012 11:19 pm Ok, cool. I'm just worried we won't be able to fit in the box of weetbix or whatever. Perhaps I should measure a box Hope an extra shelf doesn't cost too much. I've got lots of changes coming Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 7Dec 07, 2012 11:29 pm We have 4 shelves - the bottom shelf is 46.6cm off the ground, the next shelf is then 46.4cm higher (making it 93cm off ground). This shelf is actually the depth of a kitchen bench. The next shelf is 60cm higher (making it 153cm off ground) and the top shelf is 38cm (making it 191cm off ground) Our ceilings are 259cm high. Absolutely love the design of your pantry and kitchen by the way... it is just fabulous!!!!!! Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 8Dec 07, 2012 11:45 pm Thanks belandchris. My brother-in-law gave me an idea and the kitchen design evolved from there. It is completely different to what the original plan had and i love that i designed it myself. I can't wait to cook in it. Did you choose to have the shelves at those heights or was that the builder's design? Our shelves are apparently 450 wide (or deep I guess) - I think that's standard but not sure if they should be deeper?? :hyst: Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 10Dec 08, 2012 12:12 am Wow! That looks really good. Something else to consider then too. Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 11Dec 09, 2012 12:38 pm Anyone else got any advice on pantry shelf heights? Would love to hear from people with pantry shelves and whether the height has been a problem or not, whether to have uneven heights instead of uniform height, etc. Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 14Dec 09, 2012 3:07 pm Here are some real life pics to show how the cereal containers and other stuff fits on the shelves. Grumbles those pictures are really helpful - gives me a visual so I can see how things might fit in. Thank you!! We won't be having adjustable shelves. They look like they will be those ones like in linen cupboards with a bit of a fascia. I definitely think our cereal boxes and things will fit in there at the height they are though. Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 16Dec 09, 2012 4:46 pm Hello! Our pantry only came with three shelves and the bottom shelf, so each shelf was massive. No way I'd have items so tall that I needed so much height space. In the end, we added an extra shelf and asked for them to be spaced evenly. Looks perfect and everything fits great! Good luck! Re: Height between kitchen pantry shelves? 17Dec 09, 2012 5:09 pm Thanks daveandally1. It makes me feel much better about them from hearing others' experiences.
