Thanks Re: Polytec?? 2Nov 27, 2012 10:41 am Our overhead cupboards are going to be Polytec - we were originally going to have Formica but they didn't do the colour we wanted in gloss. Polytec was slightly more expensive than Formica - don't know if they were as much as Laminex as they didn't have the colour we wanted either so couldn't compare. Kitchen hasn't been built yet so can't comment on quality so far 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Polytec?? 3Nov 27, 2012 10:44 am We are also going with Polytec. They are basically the same as Formica and Laminex, just another brand. Our slab is only going down today so cant comment on the quality Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: Polytec?? 4Nov 27, 2012 11:21 am I have gotten my samples this morning - I want a very white white!! the colours are cream at best. Not even close to what I want so back to the drawing board!! Re: Polytec?? 5Nov 27, 2012 11:24 am My parents have a Laminex kitchen that is white white gloss, there's actually a picture of it on the first page of my thread. It's a bit dark though so you can't see the white. I wouldn't say there is any creamy shade to it at all. I can try and get a better picture if you like, and find out the colour? Edit: I'm pretty sure it's Polar White... 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Polytec?? 6Nov 27, 2012 3:26 pm Polytec are a huge company that supply melamines, vinyl wrap doors, polyurethane doors and laminates. Basically Createc is a shiny melamine door. Melamine is an entry level door. Since it has been available in gloss (only a couple of years) so companys have been pushing it as a high end product. Have had no issues what so ever with the product. No scratches, chips etc, and must say my wife can be a bit rough when closing the bifolds and often I hear adjacent doors being hit without any damage. Easy to clean too. One thing I found good about Polytec is you can buy any sized panels off them directly (not sure if the other laminate companies do this or do it so easily for an end consumer) and not that expensive either. In my reno I did it myself buying cabinets and panels made to size from cabinets on demand in Canberra. When I put things together I didn't like the size of the gap between the oven and the drawer so ordered a new drawer front of Polytec directly as cabinets on demand don't do small jobs and if you make a mistake it's your problem. It took about 2 weeks to from order to delivery and cost the grand sum of $62 for the 'high end' Createc delivered to the local Polytec branch. Polytec?? 12Nov 28, 2012 8:20 pm We were quoted by our builder to upgrade to polytec high gloss (the melamine I am pretty sure). It's good to hear a good review. Not sure ill be going those on the bottom cupboards but definitely on the overheads. Re: Polytec?? 13Nov 29, 2012 11:06 am Im glad it is a good product then - shame I cant get it in a white enough colour!! Re: Polytec?? 14Nov 29, 2012 12:05 pm Polar white is super white.... but just white is cream in comparison. Is there reason you have to use Polytec? Re: Polytec?? 16Nov 29, 2012 12:37 pm hmmm I have got ultra white here (a sample) and it looks very off white/cream Re: Polytec?? 17Nov 29, 2012 4:49 pm Guess it relative to what you are comparing to, but certainly I wouldn't consider what I have to be off white or cream. For example my fridge is white and it looks more off white than the ultra white createc. Pity I no longer have a server where I can put my pics. Re: Polytec?? 18Nov 29, 2012 6:05 pm All my cabinetry in the kitchen and pantry is the “ENTRY LEVEL” melamine classic white sheen and I wouldn’t want it any whiter. Been in 12 months and had no problems with chips or scratches, just wipe any marks off with hot soapy water when I wash up. Looks stunning grumbles Re: Polytec?? 20Nov 29, 2012 8:41 pm Thank you for the compliment. I would have loved my cupboards and drawers to be polyurethane but they wanted an extra $3,400. I wanted the 40mm caesarstone in the kitchen to flow through to the pantry and that cost $1,650. Unfortunately we couldn’t afford both but were quite happy with the finished product. Regards, Grumbles Interested in getting either the Polytec Boston Oak or Palace Peak for kitchen cabinets. Looking at the Boston Oak ones, it appears that the colour varies significantly… 0 9173 |
