Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 14, 2012 9:24 pm Our splashback is 700mm height and overhead cabinets are 770mm which leaves a 340mm gap between ceiling and top of overhead cabinets. I thought if we increased the height of the splashback, we could reduce the gap somewhat. Can splashbacks be any height or do they just come standard? Not sure how high the splashback should be as i'm concerned with the capacity of the undermounted rangehood. Does anyone have any advice and also please if you could let me know the height of your splashbacks and overhead cabinets. Building codes stipulate a rangehood must be 643mm above the top of the benchtop. Moving the cabinets up and extending the splash back up may look a little strange, but especially if your used to having the underside of the rangehood level with the underside of your overhead cabinets. 2 Re: Height of Splashback 3Nov 15, 2012 8:48 am most people would put in a bulkhead about the cupboards to eliminate the gap. Looks good and does not cost too much. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. A waffle pod slab does not go with maple syrup. Building codes stipulate a rangehood must be 643mm above the top of the benchtop. Range hood height above the cook top is not an absolute figure and depends on if you have gas or electric. The minimum height of the range hood above an electric cook top is 600mm. The minimum height of the range hood above a gas cook top is 650mm, although manufacturers recommend a minimum height of 700-750mm. Refer:- http://www.build.com.au/kitchen/appliances/appliance-regulations/cooktop-and-oven-installation-requirements-2 So as these are minimums, you’d have no problems mounting up to 750mm above to cook top. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Height of Splashback 5Nov 15, 2012 9:45 am Overheads higher than 700mm above the bench top would be to high to be usable. Put a bulkhead above the cabinets. It will look heaps better too! Would putting a bulkhead in an open plan kitchen still work, especially as i have the WIP (prep room) adjoining? It should look fine. It's when a b'head ends on an open corner it can look a bit odd. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Height of Splashback 8Nov 19, 2012 7:07 am Crystally Thank you so much everyone.
