Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 31, 2012 11:22 pm Hi guys.. this is my first post! I'm excited I work for a residential building company and I am finally building my own house. The only problem is that I have people throwing me ideas left, right and centre which is both a blessing and a curse. I have drawn in a brick corner pantry and I had a draftie point out that I could get a whopping 180mm of extra bench space by having a laminate corner pantry. Sounds great, but I dont quite know what it will look like. I was planning on having Polytech cupboards in white so I am guessing it will have a nice flow, but I am worried about the sides of it being so white and so shiny. I dont want it to make my kitchen look 'cheap' (despite its cost) Has anyone built a laminate corner pantry? How does it look? Re: Laminate corner pantry 2Nov 01, 2012 7:20 am Corner pantrys are almost always built in the same material as the kitchen! I wouldnt even consider doing it in brick. You loose alot of space and flow of the kitchen in brick! I personally wouldnt have put the left hand pantry in but you can see how good a corner pantry looks on the right when intergrated with the wall oven and fridge. Apart from the space a brick pantry would take up, I personally think it would look terrible (sorry just my opinion). Bears-bub, does the building company you work for do built in brick pantries in the home they build? Just about every kitchen we do have a pantry built out of the same material as the rest of the kitchen. Hope this helps. Re: Laminate corner pantry 6Nov 01, 2012 10:44 pm I really wanted a corner pantry but in WA they do it in brick as standard... Might ask at prestart about doing it in laminate.... Was going to give up 50cm of bench space to get it if it's laminate I might not have to give up so much bench space! Re: Laminate corner pantry 8Feb 18, 2014 12:41 pm Just a quick note guys I very much doubt you would be doing the pantry in laminate! Laminate is 1mm thick material that is contact glued to a substrate. Normally used on bench tops, very very rarely used on kitchen doors these days. The carcus would be built from 16mm white melamine and then what ever door material put on the front. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 8595 |
