Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 31, 2012 2:51 pm Hi all, Thought I would post some pics of the kitchen that just went in for our build, incase anyone is chasing pics of these new Laminex products as I struggled to find much when researching for information before doing our selections... The kitchen benchtop is Laminex 180fx Carrara Marble (Diamond Gloss finish) in 39mm (silver shadowline underneath to match brushed aluminium kicks). Cupboards are Laminex Charcoal (Natural Finish). The bench has Laminex Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edging which is what gives the square edge the "seamless" look. Absolutely stoked with how it has come out - sooo happy. The pics are taken of just a small portion of the bench as it had sticky protective covering over it that I pulled back a little. The bench is 3.6m ( the length of the laminate to get the full effect) by 1m wide (overhang of 300mm). We are also having a waterfall end in the 180fx which hasn't gone on yet, this will be attached by the shadowline like in the 180fx brochure. The ensuite and main bathroom vanities are Laminex Andalucian Marble (Diamond Gloss finish), also 39mm thick with acrylic edging. The pic is of the ensuite, the main bath vanity is not quite right, the edge still shows a tiny thin strip so we are going to see if we should have it changed or to just wear it as it isn't too bad at all really. Ensuite cupboard is Laminex Polar White (silk finish). We did not pay any extra for the 180fx or the special edging, even though our cabinetmaker had used neither before (costs them the same to order, not much extra labour involved either). We just paid a couple of hundred $ to change the benchtops to 39mm, about $160 for the shadowline, $150-$200 for silk finish (can't remember exact amount off hand) and $400 for the waterfall end still to come. If anyone is interested in seeing more pics just let me know and I will upload!! Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 2Oct 31, 2012 3:48 pm Looks fantastic! We went to look at the 180fx at our local Laminex showroom some time ago. We loved the large sheet samples but a large conference table on display had a definite edge line and that was not what we wanted. Yours really looks seamless which is what we had expected to see. Seems strange they wouldn't use the acrylic edge on the display. Maybe we should go back again. Anyway, I can understand why you love it. Please post more pics once the waterfall end is on. Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 3Oct 31, 2012 4:21 pm Thanks snufl! Yeah the cabinetmaker didn't really know anything about the special edging, I had to really push for it! So glad I did though, it really makes it I reckon! Not sure when you saw it, but maybe the acrylic edging wasn't quite available yet then? Thought the 180fx was a newer product than the edging but maybe not? Definetely strange! More pics to come then! Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 4Nov 01, 2012 12:05 pm OMG I am looking at both of those colours for my kitchen and bathroom, I would love more pictures of the Andalucian Marble please Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 5Nov 05, 2012 7:39 am Hi donna61, sorry for late reply... I tried to post pics for u the other day but had problems with my photo hosting... will try it again this morning and if no luck I will sign up to a different one and get picks up for u today is possible. Thanks Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 6Nov 05, 2012 8:01 am OK so here they are... more pics of Andalucian Marble for you donna61 - this is the ensuite bench: From a distance.... Close up..... (note the flash is on here so colour is a bit lighter... it really is a dark grey). Hope these are of some help, sorry I don't have many. If you are desperate for more I will take some next time I visit the house inside. Peeked through the window the other day and saw the Waterfall end is on... I think they have screwed up the way we wanted it joined on *sigh*... so will post pics when I can. Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 7Nov 05, 2012 9:00 am Thanks, it does look lovely Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 8Nov 12, 2012 8:19 am Hi all, Got into the house on Friday morning very quickly to meet with the tiler and while I was there got a shot of the waterfall end. It is wrong *sigh* but our site supervisor says he is going to get them to fix it... I don't know what they were thinking... the shadowline that connects the waterfall end to the bench ends where the cupboard finishes... what the!? It looks ridiculous, needs to go the full length of the overhang... But other than that, looks great - love the veining!! Mirror splashback is also in and looks amazing, so glad we went with it. Will look better when the house is all done and there is something prettier than construction reflected in there lol! Anyway see pic below! Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 9Nov 12, 2012 2:25 pm That looks great! I am having Carrara Marble look Tile in Bathrooms, I might change the benchtops to the 180fx. So undecided about everything! That's good they will fix it all up for you. Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 10Nov 12, 2012 2:44 pm I know how u feel, I stayed so undecided until right to the end of selections! But really happy so far with everything..
The tiles we are having through the house (except ensuite) are white with a grey fleck (carrara-ish look) through them, though much more subtle than the bench top! They are nice and glossy so can't wait to see them done (tiling starts this week). Anyways in whatever case I highly recommend the 180fx and if u like the chunky look I recommend upgrading to the 39mm... we considered granite for the house (natural not recon stone - not a huge fan for the price, would rather get something with some "wow" factor about it) but couldn't afford 40mm which is what I really love, so thought I'd rather save the $$ and get the diamond gloss laminate instead than stretch the budget to get the 20mm that I didn't really like.. but everyone's different of course! This is our first home and will end up a rental for us down the track when we upgrade so no point going too OTT! lol. Since our bench tops went in I have paid lots of attention to granite tops I've seen and the acrylic edging is really just so spot on when done right that most people are really hard pushed to tell... plus with the great quality handles we got and the imported mirror splashback, I think they sort of lift it and add to the "expensiveness" of the look IYKWIM?? If you do decide to go for the 180fx please post pics on here - I would love to see!! Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 11Nov 12, 2012 2:51 pm Love it!!! If that had been around when I built, I would have wanted it as I wanted marble, but it is hopeless as a bench, then I saw white granite and thought...one day. But this...whoaoaoaoao I used laminate on my benches, but would have loved a laminate marble, there weren't any around, ..that looked good. Unlike the normal laminate ' pretend ' marble. This looks gorgeous. Well done. And don't forget to share the finished kitchen on here, when you move in. Would love to see it. So glad it worked out so well for you. Not jealous...much. Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 12Nov 13, 2012 2:43 pm Thanks Kiwi! We are really happy with it, the Andalucian Marble in the bathrooms looks lovely too, it has the "fake" marble pattern but I don't think it looks tacky, maybe because the pattern is quite subtle really against the dark grey? But the Carrara 180fx really is "wow"! Will post finished pics up when the house is done for sure... looking like end of Jan/early Feb thanks to the XMAS hols... sigh... Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 14Dec 23, 2012 12:16 pm Great to see someone has used the fx on here... First one I think? I have a u shaped kitchen but going to get a workbench island with slate sequoia top after handover. Can't wait! Good choice I also love your use of black pencil in the kitchen. Similiar taste to me I think!! Re: Laminex 180fx, Silk finish and Diamond Gloss Acrylic Edg 16Dec 29, 2012 12:10 am Sorry to confuse you my brain is on holidays.... I felt the slate sequoia was a tad too dark as I have quite a bit of bench space, so we plan to use it on a freestanding kitchen island. I wanted mostly neutral browns so have gone Stipple seal diamondgloss for benches, the slate sequoia looks wonderful as an added feature to the ss..

Just wondering if you have any photos of the kitchen finished? I am looking at the laminex Carrera marble at present but haven't seen much of it around. Any photos and assistance would be wonderful THanks. Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well. A Renderer I… 12 18101 Suggestions please for acrylic rendering Color to match austral brick urban one pepper. Pic for reference.
