Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 04, 2008 4:32 pm Hi all. Ive just found your site and look forward to sharing ideas with you all.
My husband and I are building a new house with Simonds and have just done colour selection. I am STRESSING about the choices we made. I really want a neutral scheme with light browns throughout the house, we have chocolate wood furniture and our couches and chairs are a medium beige colour. The kitchen, dining and lounge are one big open area. For the kitchen cupboards which are parbury panelart we chose 'pearl dust' the kicker is 'shadow' the glass splashback is dulux 'mud skipper' and the benchtop ceasarstone 'osprey' The walls are taubmans 'man of war' we haven't chosen the floor tiles yet but I am thinking a light to mid beige/sand colour. Is anyone familiar with any of these colours or seen them used on the web anywhere?, I am worried pearl dust is in the pink family rather than beige as on the website it seems to be? Is osprey too white )I didn't want white? Do these colours just not work together at all? aaaagghhh!! Re: Kitchen colours - I am clueless and panicking!! 3Apr 04, 2008 7:59 pm Hi Sharee,
i just had a look at the colours on the net, I think you have chosen a lovely colour for your doors. I think your kicker is too dark for a white bench top, the tones in the Latte, linen, ivory, cashmere range will go better. I couldnt find the spladhback colour. Im no colour expert, can you post photos of the splashback and benchtop? here are the panelart colours Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Paula Re: Kitchen colours - I am clueless and panicking!! 5Apr 04, 2008 8:07 pm Sorry Sharee my photos didnt work.
Quote: I got the splashback colour from typing it into the dulux site - its a gorgeous colour I'm adding it to my portfolio tried that, must be having a blonde moment (Im brunette) Paula Re: Kitchen colours - I am clueless and panicking!! 6Apr 04, 2008 8:11 pm Sharee…..one thing I do with kickboards is to try and keep them the cupboard colour.
The last thing you want is many colours, so by keeping the kicks the cupboard colour it reduces the amount of colours and helps your kitchen to look uniformed. The “Shadow” for your kicks works well!!!! No not too pink. In fact I think it would make a nice door colour as well! IMO. Nice colour selection, you have done well. Make sure the floor tiles are on the light side. So to clarify Michelle do you think I should keep the pearl dust and shadow or have only one or the other (if so which one) Thanks haywgl and Paula, I am trying to work out how to put up some pictures now. I just have the feeling I am on a totally different track with the colours I have selected than what I intended. I like the look of the colours others on this forum have selected for their neutral kitchens (like pheonix) and would happily steal their ideas if any of them where using the same products we have to! Above is the colour of the benchtops Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Above is the colour of the kicker. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Above is the kitchen cupboard colour. On my computer this is appearing very pink whereas the sample I have isn't pink at all. I will be devastated if I end up with a pink kitchen!! For some reason I am unable to get onto teh Dulux website to get a sample of the splashback colour but from memory it wasn't too dissimilar to shadow above. And the benchtop now seems to be white whereas the sample i saw was a more beige colour. Alternate suggestions pleeease! Re: Kitchen colours - I am clueless and panicking!! 10Apr 05, 2008 7:33 am Sharee….I have every companies sample here in my office! And that colour on the forum is NOTHING like the colour “Peal Dust” sample I have!
Please do not go off what you see over the internet in colours, your samples are nothing like what is up on your post. You need to go and get samples for yourself; do not rely on the internet to give you correct colour selections! The Ospray in C/Stone is lovely……….as I said last night I put all your colours together…..the samples I have, they went well together! My question is…..what is it about the colours that you are worried about??? Benchtops – C/Stone “Ospray” Cupboards - Parbury Panelart “Pearl Dust” Kickboards - Parbury “shadow” Splashbacks – Glass – painted Dulux “Mud Skipper” Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Kitchen colours - I am clueless and panicking!! 11Apr 05, 2008 7:36 am Hi Sharee,
I like the shadow for the cupboards with the benchtop..it still looks warm, and if the splashbak is nearly the same as the doors it will tie it in nicely with a light top. You did say no overhead cupboards? Don't forget these are only suggestions, you still need to go with what you like. Paula Re: Kitchen colours - I am clueless and panicking!! 12Apr 05, 2008 9:17 am HI Michelle and Paula, I have the samples too Michelle and that is what I chose from, I started panicking when I saw the colours online and in my brochure looked nothing like those I had! I am definitely comforted if you think those colours won't look silly. What I was mostly concerned about was that my cupboards were going to be pink and the benchtop too white, I was after a more neutral look to match the browns in our house. This is a picture of the kitchen we are getting. We have a glass rangehood so don't have the cupboards above that, but do have the two smaller ones beside it.

Here’s another thought for you. The front of the breakfast bar…..could also be your kick colour! Parbury “shadow” NICE!!! This making your kitchen very complementary! The Dulux “Mud Skipper” for your glass splash backs is PERFECT with the “Shadow”, spot on colour selections there! Now, if you make the front and side of your breakfast bar the Mud Skipper the 2 colours (Mud Skipper & Shadow) it will look stunning together! I am very happy with your selections…….if you give serious thought to what I just said, your kitchen will look GREAT!!!!! Our cupboards are river cherry, and benchtop is Almond Rocca (CS). They don't look pink at all, and I love it as it has that slight shimmer to them. We chose that colour as we thought it would look strange to continue the "wood" onto the kicker, and had to choose something similar to our tile colour. I think it would look great on doors and would have been my choice had we not gone for the wood look.
If you want to see up close pics of the pearl dust let me know and I'll post some on here (or check my blog but I can't remember if there are any close ups on there). Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Kitchen colours - I am clueless and panicking!! 17Apr 05, 2008 9:09 pm Hi Sharee
Sorry i may be off the topic here, but just wonder how long does it take for Simond to call you and make appointment for color selection? I have paid the deposit last week and finished some paper work today and they advise that i just need to wait for their phone call, but just wonder how long? Re: Kitchen colours - I am clueless and panicking!! 18Apr 06, 2008 6:07 pm Thanks Ray, I had a look at your blog and the pearl dust is exactly as i had have hoped! I really like the colours you have chosen throughout your house, the pearl dust and river cherry are a nice combo!
Claego, we haven't actually been that happy with simonds up till this point we have had to chase our CSO anytime we wanted something and we hassled them to get our colours done and they didn't actually get us in until after we had signed the contract which was almost 4 months after the initial deposit was made.
