Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 05, 2012 9:58 pm I'm about to rip out and renovate our kitchen. Our existing kitchen is old (70's) and the depth of the benches are 450mm at most with tiling up to the kickboards. With the new benches being 560mm the front legs will sit up on the tiling and hence the kickboards will also be sitting on the tiling. I'm concerned about water/food/etc getting under the kickboards, what's the best solution for this? Would I be best pulling up the tiles or can I just put a silicone or similar sealants between the kickboard and tile? Re: Tiling under kickboards 2Oct 06, 2012 8:39 am If you where that worried about it I think a nice bead of silicon along the tile and kicker would be the way to go. Even the old tile to the kicker won't keep water/liquid spills out, and it would be a large amount of work to cut a straight line in the tiles and then pull a few up! The question is what color silicon, grout color? White? Don't know if clear is a good idea, also a bead of colored silicon will hide any small gaps between kicker and tile 2 Re: Tiling under kickboards 3Oct 06, 2012 9:38 am stormjr If you where that worried about it I think a nice bead of silicon along the tile and kicker would be the way to go. I do have some floor tiling to do but wasn't keen on pulling up too many tiles. I was thinking of a coloured silicone, grout and tile is a light grey colour so I guess I could get something to match. Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7944 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8216 4 14810 |
