Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 04, 2012 9:59 pm We are looking at renovating our kitchen and we're in the process of talking to some cabinet makers but I'm so confused! What depth is your island bench? We have a large space to work with so that isn't an issue but one cabinet maker was talking about 900 and another was talking 1500 - that is a big difference?!? Re: What depth is your island bench? 3Oct 05, 2012 7:35 am Unless you have a small space 900mm is to small. 1000-1200 is failry standard size for an island if you have the room. My island unit is 1100mm wide and I have cabinets on the back side. Re: What depth is your island bench? 6Oct 05, 2012 8:00 am Oh and id say it depends on how long it is as to whether you go wider...sometimes the short ones look good when they are really wide...turns into more of a square than a rectangle! Long ones not so much of an issue... Agreed 900mm is standard for spec build homes. It costs the builder alot less! If you have control of your build and can design you kitchen I would go wider. I think 900mm unless its a small kitchen looks underdone! Re: What depth is your island bench? 10Oct 05, 2012 11:27 am If and when the house actually gets build mine will be 3m long by 1.2m deep. I agree with CEK, essentially get the size that suits the space. Re: What depth is your island bench? 14Oct 05, 2012 2:29 pm The biggest that can fit in your space preferrably using a single sheet of stone is better, ours is big 1400 deep by 2806 long and i would have liked it to be deeper and longer.. I love the size as it gives me lots of room to work & lay out cookie sheets etc, but when clearing & cleaning it I can't reach from one side to the other, so I have to walk around it to get the dirty breakfast dishes and wipe it clean, which is a little annoying. But then, I am a shorty! Re: What depth is your island bench? 16Oct 21, 2012 9:57 pm In our plans ours is 1m wide by 4.5m long. I am hoping it works well, we have the 400mm breakfast bar and on one end there is 700mm that is cantilevered so we can sit around it like at a table. Re: What depth is your island bench? 19Oct 22, 2012 6:11 pm idream3 Our just completed kitchen has a 3m x 1.2 and we love the size And the good thing about this size is it fits within a single slab of Caesarstone, so no join! We are building our new house and I'm excited about our 60cm deep island. I thought that was standard size, although I've seen deeper narrower ones too of course. But not a single one has mentioned a 60cm deep one yet :p It's 250cm wide. The distance between my DEBs varies from 4.1m at the narrowest to 8.1m at the widest. 5 27281 Hi, only for walking.
