Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 03, 2012 3:06 pm I want super shiny cabinets in my kitchen. I'm confused as to which type i should select to give me that look. The builder has offered Vinyl Wrap, Polytec Melamine Gloss, or Two-pac. I know the Two-pac is going to be extraordinarily expensive but just wondering which option would be best out of Vinyl Wrap and Melamine? Does anyone have any advice or pro's and con's to any of them? Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: Super glossy kitchen cabinets - which to choose? 2Oct 03, 2012 6:34 pm Melamine is the best over vinyl wrap. I personally wouldnt use either. I would use 2pac! So much better, more colour and it can be repaired and resprayed Cutting Edge Kitchens and Cabinet Making http://cuttingedgekitchens.net.au http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cutting-Edge-Kitchens/290484196676 Mobile : 0419 430 575 PH: 9452 4772 Fax :9452 4772 cuttingedgekitchens@outlook.com Re: Super glossy kitchen cabinets - which to choose? 3Oct 03, 2012 9:14 pm CuttingEdgeKitchens Melamine is the best over vinyl wrap. The problem is the builder is saying they can't do the "knife edge" handless type of cabinet with the Melamine and can only do it with the Vinyl wrap or with 2pac. But we are really running out of options on keeping the build to budget. I am desperate for the no handle look and really want shine! So now i won't be satisfied unless i have 2pac lol! Just waiting on a quote from the builder for 2pac so will let you know the difference once i get it (hopefully soon!). Unfortunately he is right. Melamine and knife edge just dont work well together. How about melamine with push to open or an aluminium strip handle? I have posted a question on this board about push to open option because i am unsure of whether they are good or not. The colours consultant at our builders recommended not to get it as she said they play around a bit, when you push it it's not pushed in properly and you have to do it a couple of times or something. Not sure of the accuracy of this, so i would really love some advice on it. If you use Blum push to open and its fitted correctly it works perfectly all the time. There is one catch with push to open though. You have to close the drawers yourself. You cant have softclose and push to open together. I fitted push to open for a customer 18months on and they are still wrapped with it. Push to open works perfectly well on doors without any issues. She advised against the push to open because she said she had it installed in her new kitchen and regrets it. She said she pushes it closed and then has to do it again to make sure it's closed properly. I have no idea what type/brand she has though however i will ask them if they use Blum. Thanks so much! Even if she has Blum they may not have fitted the sync mechanism. If the drawers are over 700mm wide then its needed and the drawers wont work properly without it. Unfortunatly this doesnt tell the whole story with finishes! You are best to see them in person. It is an acrylic door with a mirror finish. If you happen to get a scratch in the door, it can be buffed out with car polish. Also they use a unique edge that is called glass beading, which give the appearance of a glass sheet over the door. Unfortunately their website doesnt do the product justice, and it's beneficial to see it in person. http://www.ultraglazedoors.com.au/styles.html Hope this helps With 25 years kitchen experience and a passion for what I do, I have joined this forum to offer advice or at least my opinion on all things relevant to kitchens. I was a cabinetmaker by trade and am now a senior manager of a kitchen company. I have requested some samples to be sent to me however i'm not sure if our builder would agree to stock from another supplier (without charging us an arm and a leg i guess). Would you happen to know if these would look okay against the black melamine gloss cupboards (as in would it still look like it's blended in and not strange because the cabinet is gloss but the strip handle is flat matt i assume?) Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: Super glossy kitchen cabinets - which to choose? 17Oct 15, 2012 6:08 am I am not sure as I have only used the aluminium. It would probably look ok though becuase they are recessed back behind the door/drawer and the shadow would hide the gloss level anyway.
