Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 01, 2008 12:52 pm hi guys,
i forgot to ask my builder to add a watetr point at the fridge space for my future ice maker ( in the side by side fridge e.g. samsung or LG) today the builder rejected my request as the slab is about to be poured, does anyone know can we still do this while the plumbers are working on the site ( e.g. pay them cold hard cash) or must wait until after handover? thanks Re: water point at fridge space 2Apr 01, 2008 1:09 pm Hi Damon,
Very strange assertion from your builder. The piping for the fridge is a simple branch-off work, plus putting the tap. It is not related to the pouring concrete, at least in my case. Since this is important, ask again your builder, why it cannot be done. he might have the right issue, but i couldnot think of at this stage. Re: water point at fridge space 3Apr 01, 2008 1:13 pm Sorry Damon, that's what known as a cop out!
When they run the pipes for your water eg. the showers etc, it will all need to come from a single point and that is run through the roof and down the studs to the correct point. They can add a T piece and connect up a pipe for the fridge and run it down the studs to the appropriate point. Ask them....it is not impossible to do! Insist if that's what you want? Re: water point at fridge space 4Apr 01, 2008 1:15 pm If your pipes run through the slab it may be a little harder but still acheivable however if they run through the frame then some 'cold hard' should fix it no worries! Re: water point at fridge space 5Apr 01, 2008 1:16 pm Oh and if you pay the plumbers cash, make sure you tell your S/S or they might rip it out because it does not conform to their drawings!!! When you do get it done, get the tap and filters put in a cupboard and not behind the fridge. We got ours put in the bottom of the plate cupboard, also while you’re at it get the sparky to put an isolator for the fridge power point in a convenient location. It saves having to move the fridge for anything other than fixing or replacing. Re: water point at fridge space 9Apr 01, 2008 1:53 pm OK I might be right off track here, but when we bought an ice maker fridge, it was just a matter of running the hose (it came with one long enough to reach 5-6 meters) along the back of the cupboards and then connect it to the tap under the sink.
It was really easy. Paula Re: water point at fridge space 10Apr 01, 2008 1:53 pm Unless the water point in the kitchen (like mine) is in an island bench in which case the pipes run through the slab.
We had to have a seperate line run for the fridge... We had to have a seperate line run for the fridge... Usually the water pipes still go through the frame, and then through a large PVC pipe in the slab to the island bench. Any power circuits get fed through the same pipe as well. EDIT: there are always exceptions to the rule! yes it is an island bench 14Apr 02, 2008 12:54 pm thnaks a lot for the replies, i can't imagine it is so handy to get someone's opinion in the field so easily, i love this forum!
the house is PD Newstead 27, so the "L" island bench got the sink and DW, but anyway i will talk to my CSC again to see what we can get it done, very good opinions/ tips from all of you guys!
