Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 21, 2012 10:51 pm We will be starting on our new kitchen soon, I've done bit of a mock up using designer 3D, the island bench will have water fall edge and breakfast/bar, I couldn't put this in on the design.
The ceiling will be raked as well. Comments welcome. Here's a sketch of the layout, Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here's the design, the room is 7600mm X 7400mm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: New kitchen 2Aug 21, 2012 10:59 pm Looking good, except in the sketch the kitchen window is not centered to the sink. How wide is the island? You need a decent width to accommodate the two functions- cooking and seating. Will your dishwasher be near the sink? Also, is your oven on the far wall as in picture? Good point on the sink, it will be centered on the detailed plan and the dishwasher will be on the left of the sink. And yes the built in microwave and wall oven will be as the design. The island bench will be 1200mm wide X 1800mm long i believe.. I need to sort that out on the plan. Re: New kitchen 4Aug 21, 2012 11:29 pm The thing I'd change is the position of the cooktop, because it's situated on one corner. I would be more inclined to position it centrally to allow space on both sides for cutting boards, trivets, general "elbow room" while cooking. I don't like working into a "corner". I think it works better that way. Re: New kitchen 5Aug 22, 2012 8:06 am I like it. One thing though......the cook top right at the end of the island. I wouldn't have it right on the edge, perhaps move it towards the center (line up the centrerline of the cook top with the 1/3 line of the island) as you'll be walking past that corner and the potential of collecting a handle is pretty high. You’ll also have rest space on both sides of the cooker as well. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: New kitchen 6Aug 22, 2012 8:24 am Thanks for the feed back, some good points about the cook top, that's where i wanted to put it from start only looking at it from a visual perspective. The mrs wanted it where it is now, I think i can talk her into having it closer to the centre , cheers. Re: New kitchen 8Aug 22, 2012 11:17 am Something that doesn't show on this top view elevation is whether the kitchen window will sit flush to the benchtop or not beneath the window...Probably personal choice, really, but I prefer not to have to wipe the window from backsplashed water droplets!! Re: New kitchen 9Aug 22, 2012 11:24 am Here is a useful link to help with your planning: gives guidelines for space between cabinets, door clearances for dishwasher etc. http://renomart.com.au/the-39-essential ... en-design/ Re: New kitchen 13Aug 24, 2012 7:16 pm or even the laminex metalline, I am interested in seeing someone use it for a splashback.... Easier to clean than glass I imagine and probably less expensive? Re: New kitchen 14Aug 24, 2012 7:24 pm Treeseachanger or even the laminex metalline, I am interested in seeing someone use it for a splashback.... Easier to clean than glass I imagine and probably less expensive? Yes it is cheaper but apparently it's not as durable.. Re: New kitchen 15Aug 24, 2012 7:30 pm That's interesting. I thought it would at least be as durable as a laminex benchtop, and it doesn't get the wear and tear as a splashback either.... That's what i was told by a cabinet maker, I think he was just trying to sell me a glass splash back. Re: New kitchen 17Aug 24, 2012 7:51 pm You might be right salesmen all want us to go for the most expensive item because they get the most commission.... Re: New kitchen 19Aug 24, 2012 11:50 pm It is better away rather than being near the open family dining area. To me having the oven near the traffic flow area is really an issue safety wise. Having said that, how about swopping the fridge to the far side (closest to pantry), and just move the window and sink cabinets down further? That way it would be easy to stock the fridge from the pantry too...
