Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Please help me with my shortlist for benchtops!! 21Jun 28, 2012 11:36 pm I like it cos it's a bit different. I didn't want an actual home theatre room, or study: this was our attempt at downsizing from our previous house. But we wanted something big enough so family and friends could stay when needed, so TV room doubles as a bedroom when needed. It is hard to give up space- but I'm hoping it will be easy to clean! As you can see I have lots of bench space in the kitchen, but hardly any overhead cupboards. Which is why we want the island. It's actually quite a big kitchen though. Thinking of doing some o/heads each side of the rangehood, glass fronted if poss? Maybe also over the fridge? so you think I could do peruvian clay for the back as well? Re: Please help me with my shortlist for benchtops!! 22Jun 29, 2012 12:00 am I'm not sure about the back - ours is the same because I didn't think about it, but in all honesty, I might have chosen a darker colour for the back. Marks, footprints from swinging feet when sitting on stools, etc - these would probably show up on light back panels. Glass front cupboards are AWESOME. My Mum has them in her kitchen, with downlights inside the cupboard and underneath the cupboard for an effective lighting display she keeps fine china/crystal items in them, e.g. wine glasses. Overhead cupboards are good for storing items in the kitchen I reckon...hence why I have so many!! Are you having a canopy rangehood or an under-cupboard rangehood? Re: Please help me with my shortlist for benchtops!! 23Jun 29, 2012 11:19 am It's a wall mounted rangehood. Yes, I had o/head glass fronts in previous house, with all my nice display china and wine glasses in it too. But it was a laminex kitchen, not solid timber, so actually the "glass" was perspex! But no one could tell the difference. . . Re: Please help me with my shortlist for benchtops!! 24Jun 29, 2012 11:41 am I love your plan, colors and table, what color are your floor tiles? Re: Please help me with my shortlist for benchtops!! 25Jun 29, 2012 12:06 pm Thanks excited! Here it is again, from previous page. Not sure if this one will enlarge when clicked tho since I have used the quote? Any other ideas for the back of bench? I want to keep a plain colour to minimize patterns in the room as my sofas are sage green in a stylised leaf sort of pattern. Love their colour but sometimes wish the pattern was less....distinct. They are about 15 yrs old but the fabric is still too good to change them!! My darling would have a FIT Ps in case you're wondering the bit of cardboard at the top has been painted the wall colour for the FFL, in kitchen itself I hope to have Russian toffee...LOVE that colour... Re: Please help me with my shortlist for benchtops!! 26Jun 30, 2012 5:42 pm Hi everyone, I went to Laminex today to collect a big sample of stipple seal gloss to show my darling and also white valencia - possibly for bathrooms. dAH DAHHHHH! My kitchen selection is now FINALFINALFINALFINAL Benchtop: Stipple Seal diamond gloss Looks fantastic with the floor tile AND freestanding island benchtop. Door: vinyl wrap Settler Plank in Warm White (both formica) Kick: Peruvian clay I have decided just to get the warm white on the back of the bench and stick beaded board to it after handover, painted in the same green as walls of FFLiving. I think it will look great!! You can also get mouldings for the vinyl wrap cuboards for a traditional look, really stoked about that- if we need it, it's there. Handles: something similar to this tradco one: Freestanding island top: Fx slate sequoia. The consultant changed my parchment doors to Formica warm white as parchment has yellow undertones. Gasp! Didn't see it until we compared them! I tossed up between "shiver" profile door (like a shaker) and homestead profile which is what my darling wanted: the settler plank is a great compromise and looks easy to clean. I am REALLY happy with everything kitchenwise now, thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions!! Re: Please help me with my shortlist for benchtops!! 27Jun 30, 2012 5:51 pm Love it! Congrats on your choices, am glad you are happy with your choices. Re: Please help me with my shortlist for benchtops!! 28Jun 30, 2012 6:13 pm Thank you! The image below from Houzz shows a green beaded board panel to the back of their bench. They have used a really vintage green colour though, whereas the colours I've chosen are all modern, but still, it gives some idea of the effect. I hope it will tie both rooms together as I want the vintage/modern blend. It's something I can experiment with, and I can always repaint if needed. I wouldn't use the extra rectangular shapes though, just keep it very simple with some nice moulding top and bottom. I was pleasantly surprised to see them using the tin on the Block as a splashback, I think all things old are coming back!!! Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7157 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
