Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 21Jun 11, 2012 5:24 pm thanks rocketship! As much as i LOVE the pictured layout how it is I don't think it'll fit (unless we go out into the eves, which is possible - but we have our final plans drawn, and we really want to be at contract before June 30 for the $26,500 FHBG)... So to narrow it down, I had very similar measurements to you. Fridge - 1000mm Doors - 2 x 400mm cabinetry doors Side cupboard w/ window - 600mm deep So without including the cooker, all that is 2400.... which in theory leaves me 1800mm for my cook top... so 900mm for freestanding cooker, and 2 x 450mm for cupboards/drawers either side? Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 23Jun 11, 2012 5:29 pm Will do it when I get home (T minus 31mins til hometime!) and then upload... PS: 12 hr shifts on a public holiday are soooo tiresome. I mentioned you on page 3 I think! Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 25Jun 11, 2012 8:49 pm Yes I have an all white U shaped kitchen and love it! HOWEVER, am quite partial to an island as well and am impatiently awaiting your post! Just sayin'! I am trying to create what I want in the essastone 3D creator but failing as I cant get the room the size/shape I want... I will try again tomorrow. I say crappy because I'm not very skilled at it!!!!! Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 29Jun 12, 2012 4:54 pm Ok here is what I have managed to come up with (amazing what procrastination does; I really should be studying for exams)... This is a top down view with measurements of each object, the island, and the gaps between. I know the top measurements dont equal the figure shown below (its out by 40mm, its just the program being stubborn). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here is one view, to see how it will turn out... Imagine a bulk head in there to tidy it all up at the tops too.. http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x391/j0anne04/kitchen3d.jpg And another... again, imagine the bulk head... http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x391/j0anne04/side_angle.jpg & then in a realistic view (but ignore the colours)... http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/x391/j0anne04/topview.jpg This is without going out into the eves, or making the kitchen any bigger than it already was... so for that I am pretty happy. It doesn't show the WIP (my next activity) but it'll be behind the cabinetry doors - I also want to explore what KIND of cabinetry doors I'd use... Kiwi, what do you have on yours? ie: opening inwards, outwards, folding, etc. We saw our builder today and I broke the news to him that I want to update the kitchen... he (and my other half) just shook their heads... but I insist I must get this right! Also I haven't got a lowlight window on that side bench in images (dont know how) but thats what we are considering (same as pics in previous posts).. At the stove. So one drawer can have them, another junk, another posh cutlery, another knives. Sorted. 400 is enough for things like that, or have one drawer a spice drawer. I have that, just lay them in there on non slip rubber stuff I have a floor to ceiling bifold in Formica for my appliance cupboard, no door on my walk in It opens out. If you can, have a sliding cavity. You can as you have space, but you would lose 10 cms for a wall and to hide it. You can still have cabinetry with a cavity. Looks good, you pleased? I still have not got a specific spot for my m'wave though... and thats one thing the OH wants. & do you think you could get a door that when opens, folds to the LHS of the pantry wall (so you are not making that bit of bench inaccessible?) ... and wow you ladies are quick!!! I did try and put drawers there (good minds think alike) but the program had 450mm as a minimum so it didnt work, but it had crossed my mind. If 400 can be done (of course it can. ANYTHING is possible) then yes, id put drawers on one side, and the other side cupboard for chopping boards etc... (if it went inwards, even better - but could work outwards also) -- do you know how wide it is? ill go back and check the plans see if it had a measurement on there.. but looks great! Not sure if we could do cavity unless we moved the door back where it originally was... it now sits forward in line with the other cabinetry. Kit kitchens they cant though. Pop that microwave on a bench in the pantry...you use it twice a day at most!!! You would need a wall built where drawers are ..but no biggy. Bit of wood My door is ...ummm..let me measure. You can walk into it... Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 37Jun 12, 2012 5:19 pm My door is 800 wide. Each door 400. As it is a pantry you don't want that being opened and closed all the time and blocking the flow through the kitchen..hence a cavity or a door opening inwards Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 38Jun 12, 2012 5:21 pm Thanks Kiwi! that may give me some more bench space either side of the oven too (as currently the door is 900mm wide) - or just have a wider door, either way. Now to convince the other half that I simply MUST do this. Perfect. That is what you want. She has hers butting up to the stove./ microwave. Can't tell if the fridge is sticking out though.....? Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 40Jun 12, 2012 5:30 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ See how the drawers on the right are where a cavity would sit....cos it is a cavity it doesn't have to be 800 wide, it can be 650 if that is what your drawer depths are. Cos it slides out of sight, you can go through the opening without a door handle banging into you etc 610 is what you have as the opening between drawers and island. Why not have 650 as the pantry opening ? Can one person get through a door that slim? I can do 800, don't know about 650 Ha ha You would lose say. 300 on the drawers for a wall space, so have 900 drawers not 915. 900 that kitchen guy says is better any bigger more expensive re hardware as too heavy etc Try drawing a slider on your plan to see if it would work.
