Just move it down and have the island moved down to line up with it... Easy! Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 42Jun 12, 2012 5:37 pm i'll give it a go (right after I do some house work) and see how it looks... not sure if I can do it in the 3D program I was using so ill just photoshop it in! I think however, that a door 650mm wide would be a little narrow... and would also make the WIP seem rather dark as not as much light would get in (we will have lights in there but you know what i mean)! I missed half that conversation... skim reading!! 2 points: 1. Put your WIP light on a sensor instead of switch - you will love it I promise 2. Microwave??? Would you consider a utility cupboard on the side wall (maybe not because you want the window BUT if you did a utility cupboard up against the pantry.. it would give you a spot shelf for your microwave and your toaster, kettle, coffee machine or whatever else would go in there.... ummmm, might not really be best solution you love, just thinking out loud at the moment... Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 44Jun 12, 2012 6:00 pm Have considered that Rocketship! Especially if I end up having to move the WIP door backwards to have it wide enough and as a cavity (sliding in to the wall behind the stove etc).. that would give us some more space on the side bench, so maybe make a microwave tower type construction for that, and we could still do the window, or just splash back.. either would work. Originally I wanted the door to sit flush with the rest of the kitchen but we'll see what the cabinetmaker thinks... otherwise, I am investigating inward folding bifolds so you could just push the door inwards and out of the way. Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 47Jun 14, 2012 9:07 am Nina has the same but with the door back and with a u viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Sink by window...just sayin! Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 48Jun 14, 2012 9:19 am Id agree Kiwi, but in this case the sink at window is looking at a fence < 1m away... I think it would be dark and feel closed in. If I had a lovely view, for sure! We're still playing with ideas, hubby likes it but isn't convinced it's practical for where we'd put everything so I'm running thru in my head where I'd store everything to have a decent agreement as to why it's fantastic Our concrete floors however just jumped in price .... a lot. So that may affect my kitchen budget! Hate price hikes. And yes...don't have a sink looking at a fence. Not fun. Hey...if you can't have stone tops, and have to do Formica (I know, hell would freeze first) but I got 100 mm Formica, and it was $300 more than 50mm And looks much better..well I think it does. All my benches were $1100 oz $ at the 100 mms. A lot cheaper than stone ($4000 it would have been) Re: Kitchen layout; recommendations based on experience? 50Jun 14, 2012 11:24 am Whats formica like as far as stains, scratches, etc? Might be worth looking into... We have >9k worth of stone in kitchen, WIP, and bathrooms... Or a brand of laminate I think. Anyway same as laminate! Very hard wearing, scratch resistant if you don't cut direct on it, harder than wood anyway.
