I've been out of kitchen for a few years now but back then there was no such law that required you to give any warranty. I worked for Nouvelle kitchen and we had a 10year Guarantee but that was by choice. From meory bits like blum or Hettich hinges came with a life time warranty. But I wouldnt like to give a long warranty of things like Vinyl wrap doors as they have a tendancy to peel off after a while. Re: 7 year guarantee 3Mar 11, 2008 12:00 pm ziggyboy Does anyone have more info on the 7 year guarantee? Is it required by law and what does it cover? The only 7 year warranty I have encountered is for Thermolaminate (vinyl wrap) boards, and that prety much sums up what the manufacturers know about their product. The cabinetmakers we use provide a 10 year warranty on all their work - the warranties they offer on their materials vary depending on the manufacturer. We only use Blum hardware, which carries a 25 year warrranty. An interesting fact about warranties such as the Thermolaminate 7 year offer is that if a board (say the big one between your pantry and your wall oven microwave combo) fails within that 7 years, the manufacturer will only replace the failed product; they will not pay for or supply the labour to remove the old cabinets (and potentially half your kitchen), install the new board and put everything back together again. Another aspect of warranties is that any product or service you pay for automatically comes with what is called an "implied warranty" which states that the product/service must not only be provided exactly as you were led to believe when it was sold to you, it must also be fit for the purpose it was to provide. Fit for purpose in the context of a kitchen means that all materials and manufacturing/installation techniques used must comply with the relevent Australian Standards. This implied warranty is a legal requirement in Australia - so don't let anyone say that they do not offer returns or refunds or product support. But don't let any of that lull you into a false sense of security, because if something in your kitchen fails, say, five years down, the line the supplier and or fabricator is going to argue that the failure was due to "fair wear and tear" or "misuse" and you will have to be able to prove otherwise...bit of a bummer... In our case we like to protect our reputation and therefore will do whatever we can to keep our clients happy - but we won't let ourselves get bent over either. Cheers, Earl Re: 7 year guarantee 4Mar 11, 2008 12:46 pm We personally know the kitchen company owner whom our builder uses. He advised us to go through the builder rather then directly through him as then our kitchen is covered under the Builder's warranty - since he doesn't have to guarantee anything as such. Re: 7 year guarantee 6Mar 11, 2008 5:24 pm ziggyboy Renovator told me that their kitchens have 7 year guarantees and that they are required by law. Said if others don't have the guarantee then it's illegal. What a crock of ... They could be correct if the kitchen is part of a larger renovation and involves an extension to the house. However the "warranty" would be on the structural work of the extension and not on the kitchen cabinets/benchtops. He must be referring to the Home Owners Warranty in NSW, which as I understand it is required by law for building works > $12K. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10105 |
