Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Vinly wrap or laminate kitchen cabinets - which is bette 2Apr 28, 2012 12:15 pm i've been doing alot of reading re this recently cause we are choosing our kitchen as well Alot of people will tell you vinyl wrap is rubbish, but apparently this was the case along time ago when bad materials were used. We ended up going with vinyl, cause the company we chose is one of the best in Canberra (apparently) and that is all they use mainly. The offer a 10 year guarantee on their vinyl as well so this won us over ( and the cost). Re: Vinly wrap or laminate kitchen cabinets - which is bette 3Apr 28, 2012 1:45 pm I would love to hear from someone who has vinyl wrap as to whether they've had any issues. I don't like the edging on laminate, and wanted a glossy finish, so we have mainly vinyl wrap, with laminate overheads. Apparently heat is a problem with vinyl and many people prefer 2 pac, but although you can repair 2 pac chips, I'm sure it's one of those things I'd never actually do. Re: Vinly wrap or laminate kitchen cabinets - which is bette 4Apr 28, 2012 2:39 pm Hi, I had vinyl wrap in the last build. We were there 6 years and didn't have any problems. We also have vinyl wrap in our new home. It is a gloss finish and I find it very easy to keep clean. Re: Vinly wrap or laminate kitchen cabinets - which is bette 5Apr 28, 2012 4:33 pm mia100 Which is better for kitchen cabinets, vinyl wrap or laminate. I don't won't 2 pak due to chipping and they are more expensive. Thanks for your response. Only cheap nasty 2pac chips! Good quality to pac is far better than laminate or vinyl wrap! A good quality vinyl wrap should be ok but there are alot of cheap vinyls on the market that delaminate and shink. Vinyl will dent and scratch easier than 2pac. By laminate I am assumining you meen a prefinished melamine door? It is finished with a 1or2mm pvc edge. It looks ok but is the cheaper end of the market. For me 2pac far out performs both vinyl and laminate in every way. Also remember 2pac is the only surface that can be repaired and re painted at anytime and any colour. If you want a face lift in 5-10years thats no problem with 2 pac just pull it off and respray. 2pac should only be around $1000 more than vinyl. Yes unless you kitchen contractor puts the right heat shields in place it can shrink, discolour or fall off. I wouldnt use a kettle or toster below vinyl overhead doors. When I supply a kitchen in 2pac I supply a touch up kit. If you ever do get a scratch or chip it is very easy to fix! Good quality to pac is far better than laminate or vinyl wrap! Have to agree with you. We had a 2pac kitchen put in nearly 20 years ago and it is still in great condition. I'd use the existing doors in our new kitchen if I could. They will be used somewhere in our build because I love the door design and can't find anything like them now. The very few minor chips came from high impact unusual accidents (like a knife jamming in opening when drawer was slammed closed). I'm not trying to put anyone off vinyl wrap or laminate, I just want to pass on my experience of good quality 2pac. If my next kitchen lasts as well I'll be very happy. Re: Vinly wrap or laminate kitchen cabinets - which is bette 8Apr 28, 2012 5:45 pm We were wary of using vinyl wrap after reading countless tales of the peeling problems but our cabinet maker said he hadn't had any problems with it for years and had no problem with it, although he did say it would be wise not to use a kettle next to it. We selected it and though it's only early days (10 months) we've had no issues. Re: Vinly wrap or laminate kitchen cabinets - which is bette 10Feb 03, 2013 8:34 pm Just a bump... One of the bulk builders has only offered laminate or vinyl wrap (no 2 pac option)... Does this advice still ring true with current vinyl wrap quality? I could not bring myself to deal with the potential for damage using vinly wrap. Just giving my opinion of course and not out to upset anyone. Our next door neighbor is a cabinet maker and did his wife's kitchen 4 yeas ago and although he sings the praises of vinyl wrap his wife reports she has issues around his stove with the product lifting and shrinking and I DON'T WANT THE CHANCE. Re: Vinly wrap or laminate kitchen cabinets - which is bette 15Dec 30, 2013 6:32 pm I'm going to revive this debate as a builder I'm looking at uses vinyl wrap and I'm unsure if I should go laminex. We are going for a white kitchen so I'm worried about discolouration if we go vinyl. What would the price diff be for a laminex door vs vinyl door? Tapatalk Discolouration isn't really a problem with most vinyls these days. Shrink back/bubling is the real problem. It is badly affected by heat from ovens, toasters and kettles. Sorry cant help you with a price difference as Laminex is a company not a product. Laminex has a lot of different options for doors. If you can let me know the type of door your talking about we might be able to help. Hope that helps Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You will probably be looking at laminexs CrystalGloss or Silk range. http://www.laminex.com.au/products.php# ... -surfaces/ If you were buying a kitchen direct from a cabinet maker or kitchen company you could expect a jump in price around $1000 but if your building with a large volume builder it could be more like $2000-$3000 Cutting Edge Kitchens and Cabinet Making http://cuttingedgekitchens.net.au http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cutting-Edge-Kitchens/290484196676 Mobile : 0419 430 575 PH: 9452 4772 Fax :9452 4772 cuttingedgekitchens@outlook.com Re: Vinly wrap or laminate kitchen cabinets - which is bette 20Jan 02, 2014 6:01 pm Crazyk Yes If you were buying a kitchen direct from a cabinet maker or kitchen company you could expect a jump in price around $1000 but if your building with a large volume builder it could be more like $2000-$3000 Cutting Edge Kitchens and Cabinet Making http://cuttingedgekitchens.net.au http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cutting-Edge-Kitchens/290484196676 Mobile : 0419 430 575 PH: 9452 4772 Fax :9452 4772 cuttingedgekitchens@outlook.com Bigger the better for storage for me IMO.
