Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 09, 2012 1:23 am Hi All, Not sure how popular these insinkerator, wastemaid etc are.... Anyone with them care to give real world comments. They are meant to grind up waste into minute particles that drain with water. Thanks in advance for the replies. Ciao and Happy Easter. Mark Re: Kitchen Sink Disposal Unit - Opinions from users/ instal 2Apr 09, 2012 5:55 pm My parents have had them in their last two houses and they were useful mainly for the scraps that end up in your sink that you have to collect and get rid of. Great to have but they're no so essential that we were desperate to have one in either of our builds. Re: Kitchen Sink Disposal Unit - Opinions from users/ instal 3Apr 09, 2012 6:50 pm We have the insinkerator 65 and we love it. It doesn't do bones, shell or fibourous stuff but it does everything else well. Cut out food scraps waste alot which leads to not so smelly bins. I would recommend you get atleast the 65 or the evolution as the lower models are Louder and less efficient. There's the new evolution range that will allow you to do bones but it's only on the evolution 200 model and not the evolution 100. Re: Kitchen Sink Disposal Unit - Opinions from users/ instal 5Apr 09, 2012 11:16 pm Thanks for the feedback so far, I have two sinks. One in the indoor kitchen and one in the outdoor kitchen where most of the cooking and prep will be done. I was thinking the evolution 200 would be the trick as I have seen them online cheaper than the price of the 100. Saw them for around 850 each. Still considering at this stage, but they do look useful. PHL, worm farm sounds like the ideal green solution but unfortunately we dont have space. Cheers and keep the comments coming. Maybe the reg's have changed. I know in the east they are ok. I will get onto it, also found out that the unit that the agent sells for around 1100 here can be purchased for 460 plus shipping from the UK. I will post up when i have the answer. Ciao Mark Re: Kitchen Sink Disposal Unit - Opinions from users/ instal 8Apr 12, 2012 2:04 am Chippy, per the Watercorp plumbers handbook "Food Waste Disposal Units (Garbage Grinders) The installation of garbage grinders on any service connected to the sewer is prohibited." Do sink drains in Perth run into the sewerage system.... May be a silly question but I am really not sure. Cheers Mark Re: Kitchen Sink Disposal Unit - Opinions from users/ instal 9Apr 12, 2012 9:39 am Yes, all (actually should say most) of Perth is connected to deep sewer. Your area is definitely on sewer. We already compost all our scraps or feed to chooks. Just wondering how well they work and if the money is worth it, for the convenience, the fact that it's pre-mulched and no smelly little scrap bin sitting on the kitchen bench? Re: Kitchen Sink Disposal Unit - Opinions from users/ instal 11Jul 01, 2012 8:05 pm We had one in our 70s kitchen and hated it. Kitchen was pulled out last weekend and we now have a lovely white modern kitchen - no Insinkerator in sight!
