Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 04, 2008 9:54 pm Hi again,
Well I visited Studio 502 with the big M today - more of a tour but I was getting ideas... At the moment the current promo is to include 20mm caesarstone in kitchen, laundry, bathroom I was just wondering if anyone knew the rough cost to upgrade to either 30mm or 40mm per room (kitchen, landry, bathroom). The lady gave me the list of extras and said it would all be in there - but looking through it only has the price for 20mm upgrade... Btw for those building with M - did you go with the standard flat, square edged laminate cupboards or did you upgrade? There was so many cupboards on display and I couldn't notice a huge difference, however, I am wondering what would look best in white, as the kitchen is one area I am willing to spend extra on upgardes for.... Thanks again Belinda Re: Stone sizes 2Mar 05, 2008 8:14 am We kept the 20mm Ceasarstone, and we have the Wilsonart laminate cupboards with the Dura Edge (it's like a plastic coating on the edges where the veneers meet so that they don't chip/peel). We like it for ours, but may look different in a white laminate.
The ultimate in white would probably be 2pak finish (hi gloss) but will cost probably 2 or 3 thousand extra. Depends on your taste. Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Stone sizes 3Mar 05, 2008 8:27 am I like the look of your cupboards Ray - I might just do the white laminate with Dura Edge - I'm not all that keen on 2 pac for such a huge price increase....
I'll keep searching around displays and see what they use.... Thanks again Re: Stone sizes 4Mar 05, 2008 8:29 am In the costs we were given to upgrade to 40mm in the kitchen were almost double the cost of the 20mm, even though it was just the "edging" to make it the 40mm! Re: Stone sizes 5Mar 05, 2008 8:38 am Hmm thats what I was thinking Vanderlay, the cost for 20mm stone was around $2k, but because we get that in the promotion, I'm thinking it will still cost us a further $2k to do the kitchen and then even more for the laundry, bathroom, ensuite - so all up probably around $8k worth of caesarstone....
Does this sound worth it..or would people just stick with the 20mm stone in bathrooms, ensuite and laundry instead of upgrading... I'm trying to find photos of 20mm stone in bathrooms/laundrys but so far I can only see laminate pics or 40mm stone.... Re: Stone sizes 6Mar 05, 2008 8:54 am We actually went with the 20mm in the kitchen and I quite like it - always wanted the thicker benchtop until I actually saw the 20mm used. It looks a little "cleaner" (not quite the right word) and less chunky than the 40mm. I think you would definately be happy with it in bathrooms and laundry. - depending of course on the overall look you want for your home! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. With the shadow line you can at least get your hand underneath it when you are cleaning crumbs off the bench, which is kinda important in the kitchen! I have friends who have a flush granite bench top and it's near impossible to clean up crumbs successfully and cleanly!
I can't recall seeing any Caesar Stone in laundry's in the display homes I have visited. Most of the 'H' one's just have the trough and no benches. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! He is so happy you have all convinced me that 20mm c/s still looks great - so we have saved a heap of $$ just from those pics!
I agree with DNA though - I like the shadow line, would I have to request things from my builder or is it pretty standard?? I can now use the money we will save from upgrading the size to choosing a cat.3 stone instead (Poor old husband thought he would get away with no upgrade ) I do recall a post a while back about someone who got 20mm but there was a weird gap between the bench and the stone, does anyone know if this was just a fault of the builder or if it meant to look like this? Can I also ask I like the look of the benchtops that sit on top of the bench and then also go down either side, not sure what you call it and can't find a pic, but does anyone have this? Thanks again guys Re: Stone sizes 13Mar 05, 2008 2:04 pm haywgl I do recall a post a while back about someone who got 20mm but there was a weird gap between the bench and the stone, does anyone know if this was just a fault of the builder or if it meant to look like this? Thanks again guys Are you sure that the "gap" wasn't the shadowline? And it's called waterfall sides where the stone is returned to the floor. I'm sure there'd be people who can post you pictures of this Re: Stone sizes 14Mar 05, 2008 2:20 pm Hmm no I don't think so DNA, I'll go and do a search and see if I can find the post I mean...I'm not very good with posting links so bare with me
Waterfall sides - that makes sense Love this look - poor old husband is sure this will be another HUGE extra...I'm happy to forgo it if its heaps more, but I adore the look Ok off to do that search Re: Stone sizes 15Mar 05, 2008 2:31 pm haywgl Hmm no I don't think so DNA, I'll go and do a search and see if I can find the post I mean...I'm not very good with posting links so bare with me Waterfall sides - that makes sense Love this look - poor old husband is sure this will be another HUGE extra...I'm happy to forgo it if its heaps more, but I adore the look Ok off to do that search I remember the post you are talking about!! http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3342&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=caesarstone&start=0 So i guess what I wanted to know was, has anyone else who has had a 20mm c/s benchtop in their kitchen had this problem? Cheers Belinda Re: Stone sizes 17Mar 05, 2008 5:03 pm We do have the shadow line/ support bench in the kitchen - both on the island and along the wall. It is the same laminate as the under bench cupboards.
Looking at our kitchen cupboards (again) we have the same problem as Catty - with the doors and drawers being slightly lower than the shell of the cabinets, which looks a bit funny as our laminate is a brown woodgrain, yet the 2-3mm strip showing where the doors are slightly lower is the white malamine behind I'm going to put it to them that they either need to replace all the doors so that they are FULL height (which still leaves a gap where the shadow line is) or put the woodgrain laminate under the bench where the white is showing... Will see what they come up with... Ray. Second Time 'Round I have a box of quality drill bits that seem to be new but their engraved sizes covered by rust ,,,,I tried to sand them to see their sizes but still I am finding… 0 3827 put the 2 draw set directly under the cooktop and the 3 draw set either side for balance 1 7355 Hi the designer has said that cantilever is 4.18m long and 7m wide is that normal size? we had to increase upstairs bedroom by 200mm and i know nothing about this beam… 0 4553 |
