Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 21, 2012 12:02 am Heya Just like with ever other item on the Reno list, there seems to be a zillion options for sinks... And the price range is enormous... So my question is... Is there a huge difference in quality between brands? What should we be looking for? Is there a "sweet spot" in sinks? We just want double undermounted in the kitchen & laundry, and single undermounted in the alfresco. Cheers, Mary Re: Will any old sink do? 2Mar 22, 2012 3:40 pm From my browsing, sinks vary in costs because of - brand names - generic-ness (some are designed to be used left-hand or right-hand, others are not) - location of waste holes (the ones with the waste holes towards the back of the sinks tend to be more expensive, see point above. Mind you, this also mean the pipes under the bench take up less room under the cupboard) - styling - sound-proofing - professional look (square/cube) tends to cost more than traditional domestic sinks - quality of the steel (if you are looking at steel stinks) - bowl dimensions (cutting 3-4 cms off the depth makes a difference to the price) I'd love to get an Abey sink, but I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a sink. Even if I know it will get used a gazillion times. We're looking at getting Oliveri, which seems to be middle of the road. For the laundry, I'm not going undermount. We can get rough in the laundry and I don't want to be worried abut chipping the bench. Mind you, for that reason, we're going for a standard laminate bench top and an inset double SS sink. 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). That's it so far! That's not hideously priced and is supposed to be pretty good. 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). That's it so far! We're in the design phase .... Re: Will any old sink do? 5Mar 24, 2012 5:34 am I've always been happy with Clarke sinks which is a builders standard sink. I had one about 20 years ago and got one of those chopping boards that fits over the sink. Just moved into the new place with a Clarke sink and the same choping board fits straight in!
