Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 11, 2012 10:25 pm Hi All Just a quick question that I am hoping someone can answer. With the squareform benchtops where the laminate is rolled over the edge not where you have the seam line along corner of the bench are Laminex the only ones that do this style or can you use any brand of laminate like Formica or Polytech and still get the same squareform result. I have added a pic of the style I am asking about. I assume that all post forming laminates can be square formed, so the polytech should be the same. As you are in WA, give Proform a call. They do the post forming for Laminex (Formica) and can do most things you may need. Will give proform a call on Monday and confirm. Re: Squareform Bench Edges 4Feb 12, 2012 3:25 pm chippy I deal with laminex and I know that formica (part of laminex) can also be square formed. I think there are only about 15-20 laminex laminates that are available to be square formed. The standard post formed round is a 9mm radius while the square form radius is 5mm. The laminate used for square forming is alot thinner than standard laminate. Unfortunately not all laminates can be square formed only a few can be. I am not sure about formicas range though. The formica can't be formed quite as tight (7mm) as the laminex (5mm) however it still has the same square edge look the op is after. As I mentioned I have my account with laminex so usually just deal with them, however I assume that most laminate suppliers will have similar post forming products that allow for tight radius bending. You probably know more about the other brands though as I'm not exclusively a cabinet maker, just a chippy that can build cupboards. The OP asked about Squareform which is a 5mm radius not 7mm or 9mm. You said "I assume that all post forming laminates can be square formed" which isnt right. The laminate has to be thin enough to be rolled around such a tight radius. Laminex has 216 listed laminates under the bench top section with only 30 or so available for squareform. Formica has a similar product called TightForm which is a 7mm radius and is available in 97 colours. What the OP was asking is if other laminate suppliers can do a bench that looks similar (tight radius). As I pointed out (and you mentioned again) formica have 97 colours that can be tight formed and having had a look at the Polytec site it seems that most of their bench top laminates that can be tight formed. Whether it is 5 or 7mm the look is very similar. I think my initial response was fairly accurate, maybe I should have said that most laminate brands will have products that will give a similar look. I understand that Squareform is a Laminex TM but as long as I can get a similar look I will be happy with that. Just looking to get a squarish edges rather than the rolled edged or the seams along the top. But will know now that If I want the sharper square look I will have to stick with the laminiex squareform colours. Thanks guys Hi - thanks for your reply.
