Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 16, 2012 8:03 pm Hi All, I posted a thread here a week or so ago regardng our glass splashback that just got fitted. The bench is 4m's long and the splashback company have fitted it in two pieces with the join right behind the cooktop which looks ugly and we dont think is practical. Anyway, we have spoken to the builder with no luck. He says that it's fine and has no intensions of fixing it. I am getting him to take off the returns as I didnt ask for them. Just wondering about everyones thoughts on maybe using a piece of stainless steel behind the cooktop (and possibly cut around the overhead cupboards 100mm) to try and hide the join and have the glass on either side. This was one of Mum's suggestions but I haven't seen a stainless steel splashback before. What do you think? Has anyone got stainless steel behind their cooktop? Photo pretty please?? Here is the photos of the splashback at the moment. I actually know someone who had a glass splashback that exploded because it was too low and I would actually worry that a seam there might have a similar effect and cause it to crack. That said, I'm certainly no expert on glass splashbacks so I would talk to a cabinetmaker or glass manufacturer about that issue. However, I think your mums suggestion is a good idea. It's pretty common to put a stainless steel panel behind a cooktop with tiles or glass either side, and I think it would also work well with your kitchen colours. Here's some examples I found on the net for you...
