Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 11, 2012 11:45 pm Hi All, New to the forum and this is my first post We have just signed up with a builder and completed all the specification for the house but have some time to make some changes if we choose. I love modern minimalist house designs and want to make sure I am on track in the kitchen area, so I would appreciate any advice or help you could offer. This is what I'm thinking: Flooring in open plan living area - industrial look polished concrete (not exposed aggregate) L shaped kitchen with an island bench High gloss white vinal wrap doors, draws and overhead cupboards Benchtops - White Shimmer Caesarstone (waterfall) Front of the kitchen island cupboards in pure gloss black Wilsonart Black glass splashback Cheers Heather Re: Kitchen - Minimalist Design Help 2Jan 12, 2012 5:24 am Welcome to the forum Nico_dreambuild Is your kitchen a large open space, connecting to lounge and dining? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Kitchen - Minimalist Design Help 5Jan 12, 2012 9:13 pm Thanks Michelle this is a great forum. The kitchen island faces the lounge area (5.1 wide and 5m in length) to the right of the kitchen is the meals area (4.09m wide and 4.27m length). The meals area looks out onto the alfresco. We have 32c ceiling with a dropped bulk head over the kitchen. DanniB I agree with you However my partner doesn't! To keep the peace we have agreed to have handles on the island and bottom draw cupboards, all overhead cupboards will have no handles. His argument is it won't be practical! My fridge/freezer is stainless steel and the face of dishwasher will be the same as the cupboards. We are going with a undercupboard rangehood so it will be invisible and look like a cupboard. Re: Kitchen - Minimalist Design Help 6Jan 14, 2012 12:28 am Hi Nico_dreambuild We have a L shape kitchen with Island bench, dropped bulk head over the kitchen and only handles on the lower cupboards with a under cupboard pull out rangehood that has a poly panel at the front. The kitchen isn't all white but it might help. There are a few pics on our thread bottom of page 3 if your are interested. Building the Amazon with Trevelle Homes. Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=39881 Blog: http://maxwell-manor.blogspot.com/ Re: Kitchen - Minimalist Design Help 7Jan 14, 2012 10:15 am Our kitchen will consist of an island bench, and a straight section on the wall/windows side due to the layout of our open plan, and also to allow easy access from both sides. Only problem we encountered was reconstituted stone only come goes to 3050mm without a joint, so that was the limiting factor for our benches. We are going handle-less with Blum Tip-On (Grass (Hafele) has similar) for the doors and drawers; also having larger fronts, with sub-drawers inside, so there will be fewer elements. Because we will have a darker benchtop, we elected not to go for the waterfall edge, as we wanted to keep things clean, but a lighter colour may be okay. Also didn't like how chunky they usually look. Re: Kitchen - Minimalist Design Help 8Jan 14, 2012 5:59 pm Handles less kitchens look great but keep in mind if you are going with the sharknose style handle less design you loose around 50mm in height in all drawers. So a drawer cabinet with 3 drawers looses a total of 150mm in storage! The blum tip on system is great for avoiding this problem and work really well but they have a couple of drawer backs. They are quite expensive, you cant have tip on and soft close and you have to push the drawer fully closed or it wont shut. If that's the case, It's not bad, as compared to the Servo Drive. We also looked at Poliform, and their kitchen with a similar (if not the same) mechanism started at $25,000. Our Bondi Greenwall was impressive from day one with advanced lush plants to provide a wow factor to this recently renovated living area. The issue is… 0 32243 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15600 |
