Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 21Jan 24, 2012 10:22 am We've got the 30mm caesarstone in Ice Snow and are extremely happy with it. Wierdly enough, of all things, a water ring has been my biggest issue - you clean it, it looks good, it dries, the water ring is still there. Then I got some Caeserstone Cream Cleanser (you can buy it direct from them online, or you might get it as part of the installation like a friend did). The cleanser is great - removed the water stain no probs and a nasty yellow curry stain later on (that was a scary one). Just use as directed (no scrubbing!!). Cover the stain with a little bit of the cleanser for a few minutes then wipe away with a soft sponge. It usually works for me, but try to clean spills immediately (prevention is better than cure as they say). Anyway, good luck. Would like to know what colour you choose - so many lovely ones! "Whoever says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain!" Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 22Jan 31, 2012 12:04 pm We too were tossing up whether to go granite or caesarstone. We wanted black and hadn't even thought of going granite. In the end our sales consultant knew the look I was going for (very shiny and very black - I'm a clean freak so will happily wipe and wipe until there are no marks!!) and she had had both in previous houses (black too) - after having a look at a large granite slab there was no decision to be made in our minds, the CS, especially in darker colours, really doesn't have that beautiful shine and life to it that granite does. Having said that we are having CS in bathrooms though but that is a lighter colour (Haze) and there was no colour in granite that suited the bathrooms colours we wanted. That's my two cents worth anyway ! Em Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 23Jan 31, 2012 12:20 pm Hi Marcoola32, Thankyou for your " 2c " worth . I'm so glad I'm not the only one wondering what to do, just a question if you don't mind me asking, Is the price difference back breaking , ie double that of CS? P.S I reckon black shiny granite would look AMAZING! Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 24Jan 31, 2012 12:25 pm Hi springtime, We hadn't even considered granite and when our sales consultant bought it up we thought no way it will cost a fortune. When she looked it up in her upgrades list she couldn't find a price and said it must be free. Being the sinics we are, of course we thought for sure when the final tender came back it would be $2000 plus! We were really surprised that it was only an extra $700 on top of the CS. To upgrade from laminate to 40mm CS with waterfall edges was approx. $4,000 and then an extra $700 for the granite. We kinda figured we are already paying a fair bit extra so what's another $700! On top of that we do have to pay the granite installer guys direct for the undermount sink holes and powerpoint holes ($300 all up for two sink holes and 1 powerpoint). We just went to the granite place over the weekend and the installer was surprised we were paying more for granite over CS but I guess the builder has to make their money somewhere, seems as if you dealt with a granite place direct it may be the same price. Em Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 25Feb 06, 2012 10:18 pm Hi, I've enjoyed reading the comments on here, and noted the advise about getting a thicker CS benchtop with mitres or butting. But could someone please tell me if the same is true of granite. I was hoping for a 60mm granite benchtop, but the slabs we have chosen are 30mm and the kitchen guy is saying we should have chosen 20mm because it will be too heavy, and he doesnt think he will be able to do it to 60mm. Does this sound correct? Do you think we will have to leave it at 30mm? Many thanks. Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 26Feb 07, 2012 12:31 pm Generally when you buy stone granite or recon it's in 20mm. If you buy 30mm it's usually because 30mm is the thickness you want. springtime - what you're saying about the shine is 100% yes! Blacks don't have a really good shine in recon. kezacheekychicken - white jif is the exact same as using the Caesar Stone cleaner. A rep for Caesar Stone told me this, and we recommend white cream jif to our customers. Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 27Feb 08, 2012 5:22 am Leni_82 Thankyou for your comment. I think I'll go with Caesarstone, would have loved to go granite, but unfortunately our budget is overstreched at the moment...besides Caesarstone looks like it's just as good as granite...it's that voice inside my head that keeps saying " go granite " that's the problem Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 28Feb 08, 2012 8:50 am Zulu has the closest effect to granite in my opinion. Good Luck Re: Advice wanted Granite or Caesarstone? 29Apr 05, 2012 10:11 am Personally I think Granite looks a million times better than CS. The character, colour, and natural variations leave the manufactured stone looking bland in comparison. Considering the price difference is minimal I would always choose Granite. You can argue the technical specifications of stain resistance, hardness etc but fact is both are extremely durable materials that will probably outlive the rest of your house. Jif cream cleanser from your local supermarket is the same thing and does the same job. CuttingEdgeKitchens pattycake 4 is on the money, caesarstone only comes in 20 and 30mm. With breakfast bar overhangs cheaper companys will only return the stone 40-60mm underneath. It should be returned the entire overhang. pattycake4 l think caesarstone comes in 20mm and 30mm not so sure about 60mm. yes they can put two 20mm to get 40mm edge(that's what l was told) I've had the 40mm edge and I personally think it looks better than 20mm. We're going 40mm again. Would like to go for a 100mm edge but the cost will kill that idea. I had heard that you can get a 60mm edge, butted the same way as a 40mm, if you specify a 30mm stone sheet. Is this true? 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). That's it so far! We're in the design phase .... I agree about 40mm. I think 20mm just looks to thin in a large kitchen. It is ok in a small unit. Yes you can get 60mm by doubling up 30mm but it would cost more then 60mm made up from 20mm stone with a mitred 60mm edge. I don't see the point in doing that though, why would you pay extra for the 30mm slabs to then laminate it to 60mm. Sounds silly to me. Go with std 20mm and then mitre it to 60mm. 0 9804 Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time.
