Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 01, 2012 3:25 pm Hey guys! just wondering if there's a recommended minimum distance between edge of benchtop and sink lip? we have an older unit with really narrow kitchen benchtops (455mm). As an interim (and cheap) solution, we're planning to give the kitchen a quick face lift by painting the cabinets and changing the cabinets to a slightly wider and prettier one (say 490mm or something) Most sinks we've seen are in the 480-500mm range. the narrowest is 435 or 460mm However, we have only found narrow sinks in the higher price brackets So would it be ok to use 460 or is it cutting it too close? thanks in advance! Re: Kitchen Sinks for narrow benchtops 2Jan 01, 2012 11:40 pm Hi s_t, can you provide a picture of your existing kitchen? I'm assuming that your benchtops are currently 455 deep, and you're planning to paint the cabinet doors and replace the benchtops with 490 deep ones? Firstly, if you're intending to go with a 460 deep sink, will it actually fit within the existing 455 deep cabinetry? It sounds like it will certainly fit 'on' the benchtop, but not necessarily within the underlying cabinet itself. If indeed it does, and your major issue is to do with the minimum distance between the benchtop and the lip of the inset sink, then I think it will be fine - it is much more of an issue if the distance is greater rather than lesser (see thread viewtopic.php?f=16&t=52844). I realise that this a temporary stopgap, but I'm concerned that the excess overhang of benchtop over the cabinets will make them difficult to access? Is it worth the trouble? Re: Kitchen Sinks for narrow benchtops 3Jan 04, 2012 9:15 am You can look at some single bowl sinks without drainer and install it with the long side facing the front and they should fit some narrow benchtops. If you want double bowls just put two side by side and if you want a drainer just get a portable drain tray. Ikea sells a single bowl sink that's only 39cm deep for $59. Hi, We're building a double-storey in Perth and I'm undecided with the kitchen sink situation. I'm set on having the main sink with dishwasher in the scullery - and… 0 20925 Thanks again for this information. If you do hear anything different, would be great to know 4 8242 dimensions on your original plan are inconsistent and with accurate dimensions (including site plan, upstairs and down) i could make a proper scale drawing with furniture… 3 7517 |
