Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 26, 2011 10:18 pm We have this particular range hood from Andi installed in our house: http://www.andico.com.au/productpages/andi/ard516m.html Moved in the house a few years ago, and when I noticed that whenever we cooked (which is not often) the smell would stay in the house. I found that there was no external duct for the air to escape from the range hood to the outside. So I guess that maybe they had a carbon filter on it to save with having to put a duct and knock a hole in the wall. Over the last few weeks, with heavy rain, I think the flaps that come from the 1st floor to the ground to cover the gaps between the tiles has come up and water has come through, into the range hood and leaking into the kitchen in buckets. No electrical accidents as yet. Just took the range hood off and found no carbon filters, no ducts, just the range hood blowing right into the cavity of the cabinet above it and the wall. Is this allowed? If the rangehood is mounted on the inside of an external wall you can duct straight out the back, if not it will need to go through the ceiling and roof. A carbon filter is the only other option.
